I took a little break from Arashi/Johnny's-related translations to work on a few Hello! Project ones. If that's your thing, check out
Yajima Maimi - Making of Sou Sora and
Heike Michiyo - Murasaki Shikibu.
Anyway, I'm back in order again with Wink Up Message Board translations with April 2004's. This looks to be the first issue where they started to make the board exclusive to Johnny's members.
APRIL 2004
Tackey & Tsubasa
Imai TsubasaTo (Domoto) Koichi-kun,
Great job on "SHOCK"! After taking a break from the last one and then being able to participate again this year, I realized just how big of an impact "SHOCK" has had on me among all of the work I've done. That's why I was able to have fun doing it in my own way. I think it'd be great if I could be in it again. If that happens, let's work well together!
A teacher that left an impression on you
I guess that'd be my teacher from middle school. He was an English teacher, and his pronunciation was amazing. He really rolled his tongue with a lot of force (lol). But he taught us by playing songs by The Carpenters. It wasn't too strict of a class, so it was fun~.TOKIO
Nagase TomoyaTo Koyama (Keiichiro)-kun,
Great job on "Kanojo ga Shinjatta" [My Girlfried Died]. You took a picture with Fukakyon and everything, it was great (lol). And then you came and asked me to sign your script. You probably didn't really want it, but since you'd taken a picture with Fukakyon I think you felt like if you didn't ask me for something it'd be bad (lol). I understand. I've already figured you out. But I think you're a good guy for doing that (lol).
A teacher that left an impression on you
My English teacher from middle school was short, fat, and bald, and really left an impression on me (lol). I remember he was always tapping his head with the bottom of the palm of his hand when he talked. Also, my homeroom teacher was a gym teacher and was really strong. A lot of guys tried to challenge him, but they were wiped out and it was over (lol). Because of that he had a strong bond with his students, and all of the boys looked up to him.Arashi
Ninomiya KazunariTo the following people,
To Domoto Tsuyoshi-kun. The other day, I sent a text message to you. And then it got sent back to me. It said the address was wrong. I thought "I wonder why," and called you, but the phone number was wrong too. How the heck and I supposed to get in touch with you? Please teach me a technique for getting in touch with a senior who does stuff like that.
To Hina-chan (Murakami Shingo). That game boy cartridge is mine, isn't it?
A teacher that left an impression on you
If we're talking about memories, I haven't actually graduated yet[1], but I'd say it's the person that taught me all about songwriting. He always listens to my finished songs, but lately he's even been saying "That sounds Nino-ish" about my songs. He's a teacher that's worked on songs with me & taught me how to write them.Johnny's Jr.
Yamashita TomohisaTo the following people,
(Domoto) Tsuyoshi-kun, thank you for inviting me to go fishing with you! I'm really bummed that because of my drama filming our schedules aren't matching up. I want to hurry up and catch some fishies - no, fish - no, FISH with you![2]
To Toma. Good luck with your play!....er, I guess the time for saying that is over. I haven't really seen you lately, but the next time we get together let's play darts!
A teacher that left an impression on you
When I was in elementary school, I had a teacher that gave me an alarm clock as a present becaue I always overslept. If I become rich, I'll give her some kind of present in return!V6
Miyake KenTo all of the fans,
For the first time in 4 years, I'm going to star in a play. This time I want to work really hard as if it were my first play. I've been saying "I want to do a play again" forever, and to finally get to do one after over 4 years makes me really happy. It'd be great if I could keep doing plays continuously from now on. Everyone, I'm sorry for making you wait 4 years. For that, I'll do my best.
A teacher that left an impression on you
My teacher in swimming school. He taught me the expression "Slow and steady wins the race." Arashi
Matsumoto JunTo the following people,
To Nakamaru-kun. Let's play darts together sometime. Just how skilled are you at darts? It seems you wrote me a message a while ago, so I'm late at replying but.....ah, I got mixed up!
To Tanaka Koki-kun. Sorry, sorry. Well, let's go sometime.
A teacher that left an impression on you
Recently I talked with my homeroom teacher from first grade. We had a class reunion but I couldn't go, so I called. I haven't seem her since I graduated so it made me really nostalgic. She said that her kid likes Arashi(lol).Johnny's Jr.
Taguchi JunnosukeTo (Domoto)Koichi-kun,
Let's make a (racing) team together! I'll be the assistant (lol). I'm sure you're going to be in a race someday, so I'm going to start studying so that when that day comes, I can be in charge of mechanics and such. Right now I'm really into cars, so I'd like to ride in your awesome car sometime. Please take me out!
A teacher that left an impression on you
I guess my gym teacher from elementary school left an impression on me. He of course helped me out at school, but he even really helped me out a lot in activities outside of school. Sir, you really helped me out back then!Johnny's Jr.
Masuda TakahisaTo (Domoto) Koichi-kun,
I went to see "SHOCK." Last year I was able to be in it too, but this year I unfortunately couldn't. I really did want to be in it after all. I was really surprised by the dancing this year, especially the acrobatics. Your dancing was perfect. You were really cool. Also, after seeing your highlighted hair, I got mine highlighted too. I'm sorry about that...(lol).
A teacher that left an impression on you
My really kind, manjuu-loving (lol) teacher from elementary school that taught me how to play kendama left an impression on me.[3] Even when she was teaching multiplication or jogging, she made everything fun. She was nice to everyone and a really good teacher. Thanks to that teacher I even learned the multiplication tables.KinKi Kids
Domoto KoichiTo all of the officials and fans who came to "SHOCK",
Thank you for your support. Please guide and encourage me next time too. Now I'm diligantly preparing every day for my solo concert. Thank you for your support.
A teacher that left an impression on you
Mr. Mori from elementary school. At that time the teacher was a huge fan of the Nankai Hawks, so if you wrote "Victory for Nankai" on tests and stuff he'd give you a good mark (lol). It wouldn't count as a point though. Then, during the Kintestu v. Kyodai Japan series, Kintestu was on a 3 game streak and the teacher was really anti-Kyodai, so he promised to treat the entire class to ice cream if Kyodai became number one in Japan. Then Kyodai won 4 games and became number one in Japan, and he really did stop class and everyone went out to eat ice cream (lol).Johnny's Jr.
Yokoyama YuuTo the following people,
Tonisen-san, thank you for appearing on our radio show the other day. It was fun listening to your special stories. If you have the chance, please take me out sometime!
To Aiba-kun. I finally got ahold of you on the phone. We really should go out to eat. Aiba-kun will take care of the bill.
To Takki. I respect you!
A teacher that left an impression on you
Mr. Okamura from fourth grade. If you forgot your homework, he'd grab you by the sideburns. He was strict, but full of empathy so I loved him.Johnny's Jr.
Nakamaru YuuichiTo Yokoyama (Yuu)-kun,
A month ago you were in Tokyo for "DREAM BOY," and you were really kind to me so I want to show my gratitude. It was really fun going out to dinner and stuff with you. Thank you very much. In May we'll be joining you for the Osaka shows, so I'm really looking forward to you showing me around your favorite spots in Osaka.
A teacher that left an impression on you
I really remember how my homeroom teacher for my third year of middle school looked former pro-baseball player [Glenn] Braggs. My memories of his face are really vivid, but he was really strong too (lol). Johnny's Jr.
Shibutani SubaruTo the following people,
Toma, thank you for praising "DREAM BOY." It's been a while since we've seen each other, but I'm glad you're doing well.
To Ohno & Ninomiya. It had been a really really long time since we'd seen each other! You guys haven't changed at all, that really put me at ease. When you were in Kyoto doing plays, Ohno-kun, we hung out together, huh. Next time let's all go out for a meal and have fun talking about old times!
A teacher that left an impression on you
My old teacher that I had for music in middle school. It was a fun class, so I used to really look forward to music time. It's because of that teacher that I started to like music. KinKi Kids
Domoto TsuyoshiTo Yamapi (Yamashita Tomohisa),
Fish are great~. There's this fish called the barracuda, that one is pretty cool. It's super fast, and it's a strong, genius hunter. I recommend that one.
A teacher that left an impression on you
My homeroom teacher from 5th and 6th grade, Mr. Horiuchi. He was a good teacher. He was an old school hot-blooded teacher, so when he got mad he really got mad, but he really cared about his students. Johnny's Jr.
Ikuta TomaTo the following people,
To Okamoto Kenichi-san. How come you're so cool? That's what I thought when I met you at the Globe Theater recently. I like you! Please go out with me (lol)!!
To Special Nii (Satou Atsuhiro). I was really glad to be able to act together with you in "Edgar-san~" Please continue to be my special big brother.
A teacher that left an impression on you
My homeroom teacher from high school, I think. I was always getting scolded and called on so we faught, but now he's the one that stands out the most in my memories. I had the same teacher for 3 years, so I'm really in debt to him. V6
Sakamoto MasayukiTo Aiba (Masaki),
I'm glad I got to go out to eat with you for the first time and discover a new side of you. I feel like I learned some secrets about you. I won't forget that night for the rest of my life (lol).
A teacher that left an impression on you
There was a moment in 5th grade where if we got a pentalty kick in the goal we'd win, so I tried to relax my friend by yelling "It's okay if you miss!" and my teacher got really mad and yelled "If that's how you feel, then don't play!" Now that I think about it, he reallyw as right.Johnny's Jr.
Akiyama JunTo (Domoto) Koichi-kun,
I really owe you after "SHOCK." This was the first time during "SHOCK" that you allowed me to play your pet. It really was incredibly fun. If only I could stay Koichi-kun's pet like this (lol). Your food expenses might be a little high, but how about it? Please make me your pet!
A teacher that left an impression on you
The elementary school that I commuted to is closing, so lately I've had more chances to communicate with the homeroom teacher I had for three years. She was an art teacher, but she loved camping and stuff a lot and she really took care of me. Recently, she even sent me some vegetables. Thank you so much!Johnny's Jr.
Maruyama RyuheiTo the following people,
To Kazapon. The other day you told me your new mail address, but no matter how many times I send you a message, I get an error. I just checked it against what someone else that knows your address has, and it's the same. By any chance are you rejecting my texts (lol)?
To Kame. I'm glad you told me your new mail address, but no matter how many times I send you a message, I get an error. If everyone's going to reject my texts, don't tell me your address in the first place (lol)!!
A teacher that left an impression on you
In high school I had a male biology teacher that liked horror movies just like me. We'd always get all excited talking about gross stuff right before lunch (lol).V6
Nagano HiroshiTo Murakami Shingo-kun,
Thank you for always calling me up when something's on your mind. In May we both have plays in Osaka, if our schedules allow it let's get together for a meal.
A teacher that left an impression on you
The one that stands out the most is a female homeroom teacher I had for two years in elementary school. She was a teacher that talked a lot about her own child.Johnny's Jr.
Katou ShigeakiTo Nishikido (Ryo)-kun,
I read last month's WU. Up until then I'd always thought all of the times you'd harassed me were dark sides of your affections. I was relieved to find out that you weren't being serious (lol). I like you too (lol). Let's continue being friends!
A teacher that left an impression on you
My current math teacher is funny! He speaks with an accent and is really passionate. Like he'll yell "That's why you should get this!" in an accented voice. Yea~h, he's kind of hard to understand, but he's definately funny (lol)!TOKIO
Joshima ShigeruTo the people that I met during the Let's Be Friends special on "Homunculus",
Whether it ends up on air or not, we made a promise about something didn't we. How are you all doing? Right now I'm really busy with our live tour, but I might unexpectedly show up to visit you all. I'd like it to be the kind of reunion where we can proudly say "We're all doing our best!"
A teacher that left an impression on you
A teacher I had in middle school. While I was enrolled in middle school, she gave me a wristwatch to celebrate my entrance into high school and things like that; I'm really greatful to her for everything. She certainly was a great teacher.
General Note: In the question-of-the-month portion, they just refer to their teachers as "sensei" so most of the time it's not clear what gender the teacher is. Unfortunately English doesn't have a good gender-neutral pronoun, so I've just arbitrarily written "he" or "she" to avoid constantly writing "he/she." The person may actually be the opposite gender.
1 - Since this is April 2004 (and the magazines usually come out a month early), Nino was 20 years old at the time. Either it took him a really long time to finish high school because of his career, or he's talking about something else. It's possible that he's not talking about a school teacher at all, but just someone who taught him about music in general - in which case, he might mean that he hasn't "graduated" from learning about music. I'm not sure =/ Does anyone know when Nino actually graduated high school?
2 - Yamapi is just writing out fish three different ways - "fisshu", "sakana", and "uo."
3 - Manjuu =
a type of Japanese desert/snack. Kendama =
a ball and string game.
