Never since arriving has Ada felt Esther's absence more than she does now. But there is nothing to be done about that, so Ada has come in search of Richard, or really any person who looks kind and sensible and capable of giving at least somewhat reasonable advice.

Ada is by nature not of a temperament to look for the worst in situations. She's had her first encounter with the mansion's magic, and while it was somewhat embarrassing, there was no harm done, and she met a nice old gentleman in the process. After the rather unsuccessful encounter with Tom, Ada retreats to the main room of the mansion. Alarmed by the some of the things she has been told, she has kept mostly to her room since arriving.
