SPECULATION
disclaimer the following is merely speculation and Mitzy does not claim any of it to be true.
ON CHILDHOOD His mother died when he was younger and he usually puts it out of mind. If you ever ask about her, he'll just tell you he hasn't seen her in a while or find some ninja-subtle way to change the subject. Or rather, as well ninja-subtle as a cheerful teenage boy can. He's a lot better at it when he's older. She died when he was younger - around five or six; he can tell you everything about that day, if you can get him to talk.
Growing up with his father, he didn't have a hard life nor a particularly interesting one. His family owns a Sushi Shop - his mother encouraged his father to open it before they'd gotten married. Their dream was to have a family and raise their children there. And when their son got older, he could take over the business when Tsuyoshi was too old to handle it on his own. Life at the shop was pretty chill for the most part - a little tense after his mom died.
Takeshi started playing baseball at a young age; a really young age. We're taking from the time he could walk and throw a ball without knocking himself over. His mother thought it was the cutest thing ever and encouraged him to practice. After she died, it was all he did. He wanted to make her proud, even in death. His father supported him and his love of sports and continues to do so now.
He didn't have many friends when he grew up. He was the annoying kid who talked to much and said / did weird things. The girls thought he was weird and the guys didn't want to admit they were scared of the little guy who could pitch a ball at their faces faster than they could ever think to run away. Of course, he tried to play with them, but someone usually got hurt. That someone was never Takeshi.
Once he hit puberty, had a bunch of growth spurts and got abs did the girls really notice him. Being a baseball star helped a lot, too.
ON FAMILY His mom is dead and he and his father don't really have much contact with the rest of their family. His family is still in Japan, though. He calls them every couple of weeks and sometimes, they send him letters.
For the most part, though, it's just him and his old man. He actually likes it that way - they get along really well. It is a little lonely sometimes, though.
ON REVENGE He can go either way. He knows and understands when seeking revenge would be counter-productive and can let go of the feelings of anger that fuel the desire. It largely depends on what you did and the reasons you did it. Generally speaking, he's pretty forgiving. When it comes to his friends and family - and sometimes his ego - he's a lot less likely to let it go.
After all, he's a sore loser and if he can beat you just as badly - if not more so - than you did him, he will.
ON ROMANCE / SEXUALITY He's never really had a first love that wasn't baseball. He never really noticed girls - he was always more interested in building his identity with a bat and a ball. He doesn't really notice when people like him but when they bring it to his attention, he lets them down gently without giving them false hope. Even if you feel differently about him than he does you, things won't change.
If he ever noticed someone romantically, though, he'd likely put it out of mind whenever possible. He'd keep it to himself for the most part but he'd be honest and up front about it if he was ever confronted. If he decided to pursue it, he'd be persistent - maybe a little obsessive - and would only step down if the other person in question was taken or told him to back off.
He doesn't claim to be straight but he won't say he's gay, either. He'd be willing to give anyone a chance if he found those feelings were there. He'd experiment and let things go at whatever pace his partner was comfortable with, but sex would have a lot of meaning to him. Sexually, the emotion - particularly the aggression - he holds in would likely come out; it'd probably be minor things like biting and scratching, but a few other things might sneak in here and there. Beyond that, his affections would be largely innocent and come in the form of hugs and hand-holding and small little touches with playful, sneaky smiles when no one else is looking.
He wouldn't handle rejection well and he'd handle a break up a lot worse. Obsessive and a sore loser, it'd take him months - years, truthfully - to fully get over someone. Even then, he probably wouldn't move on to someone else for sometime. Any relationships he was in, he'd follow faithfully and he'd be very unlikely to end it unless he was sure it was the best option for the other person; he'd take his own heartbreak over theirs any day.
ON RELIGION He's a full blood Japanese and his family all follow the prominent religion in Japan. He's not super absorbed in it and doesn't follow many of the practices. He does know the basics, though. He's totally cool with whatever anyone else practices and definitely won't push his belief on others.
ON LUCK He believes in it but he doesn't seek it out. He's very much the type to try and make his own luck and if it doesn't turn out as well as he'd hoped, he'll pick himself back up and force himself to try again.
It's not just about luck, you have to have the skill to do what you want.
ON THE SCAR He was teasing Squalo one day. It was all in good fun. And then Squalo got upset. Really upset.
ON TECHNOLOGY He's a pretty simple guy, when it comes down to it. He knows how to work the basic things - a television and video game consoles, the phone and most computers. They have all of those in his home, especially considering how important it seems to be in the world now. Bt truthfully, he'd be just as happy without them.
He doesn't have a cellphone and he's in no real hurry to get one. He's usually in the same places every day around the same times - if someone needs to reach him, they know where he'll be. On that same note, if he needs to reach someone, he knows pretty much all of his friends numbers by heart and those he doesn't, he has written down somewhere. Truthfully, he's not terribly cellphone savvy and a lot of the newer features just kind of go over his head. If he had one, he'd only really use it to call and text people. And for the contact list, just in case he ever lost his written list.
As far as computers go, he knows the basic things. He can turn it on, find what he needs to and type things up when it comes to that. He's not the greatest typist in the world but he's decent at it. Give him an hour and I guarantee you he'll be hacking out 90 words per minute with ease. Probably more. As far as everything else is concerned, he probably doesn't know how to do it. You'll only have to show him once though and he's set for life.
In general, though, he'd really prefer to do what he can by hand. It feels like you accomplish more.
ON RIVALS Some people say he has a rivalry with Gokudera. He looks it more as a game and a way to pass the time. He just likes to ruffle his feathers and it works. Every time - why should he stop?
When it comes down to it, Takeshi can only really say he's had two people in his life that he considers rivals: Squalo Superbi and the Phantom Knight Genkishi. While it may not seem like it to an outside source, all the pieces fit when you take a closer look.
Squalo beat him. Humiliated him when he was ready to prepare Tsuna with his everything. He was the person who opened his eyes to a world that wasn't baseball and instilled a new resolve in him. Their rivalry began the moment Squalo defeated and it never ended. He pushed himself to learn a new style and succeeded; fought in a dangerous scenario to win a fight that could have gone either way. For Takeshi, the Ring Battle wasn't just a battle for the ring - it was a chance to prove himself and to better himself against the person who'd shown him defeat. After their battle, the two became as close as could be expected considering either of their personalities and their bond could even be looked at as a Teacher-Student kind of relationship. But when it comes down to it, Squalo is someone Takeshi wants to be better than. He learns from him as much as he can but he's always pushing to become stronger, to impress and be the best. For Squalo to have sent an older Takeshi videos to lure him back to the sword is evidence that perhaps, Squalo considers him a rival as well. When it comes down to them, neither of them likes to lose.
His rivalry with Genkishi was quite short-lived. In a battle of pure skill, Takeshi may have won against him, but in the end, he suffered a loss during their first battle. That loss was quite similar to his loss to Squalo; it wasn't something he was going to just let go. For him, that loss was more than just a defeat for him but one for Squalo as well. Genkishi was the second person to instill a need to raise from the ashes and to impress once again. He took the beating from Squalo for his loss, shouldered the burden as best as he could but trekked on determined to beat him. If Genkishi hadn't died by Kikyou's hands after Takeshi's victory, Takeshi wouldn't have let their relationship end there. He'd pursue Genkishi and constantly seek to better himself and remain better than him.
