Jormungandr had been going through the whole day feeling like he was forgetting something incredibly important. His conversations with his wife and children had felt hollow and forced, almost unreal. He tripped over words at unexpected moments for little to know reason ( Read more... )

[ Chell is out and about today, doing all sorts of drone!wife errands in preparation for this evening.

She spots Jormungandr while she's out and about, and those Mayfield memories make her stomach do a funny little flip.

Right.

She stops abruptly, wondering if maybe she should just keep her head down and keep walking. ]

[He doesn't notice her. He's lost in thought, trying to place his finger on exactly what's wrong. So far he's been unsuccessful.]

[ Several moments are spent debating what to do, before Chell finally decides that she's going to confront him.

And by confront him, what she really means is saying hello. ]

Good afternoon.

[ It's the same lilting, slightly eerie drone voice she's been speaking in all day, but when she speaks to him it's a little more even, and slightly less creepy. ]

[He's surprised. First of all that she's talking to him... as he can recall, they usually attempt to avoid each other. Too many memories, perhaps.

And... also she's talking to him. He can't quite reason why this is odd. Should it be? It's just one more strange thing that has made today so... off-putting.]

...Hello.

[Lilly is feeling quite out of it herself. Not because she's having any problems, oh heavens no. It's because she's too dense to realize what exactly is going on. She took to the streets in an effort to clear her head, but seeing a man with a distressed look upon his face is enough to make her stop.]

Is everything alright, sir?

[He stops. Does he know her? On the one hand he knows he does, he's lived in this town his whole life, he should know everyone, but on the other the depths of the ocean whisper to him lies lies and he can't even tell.

He opens his mouth to reply but suddenly he doesn't know how. He shuts his mouth again, frowns, and tries once more.]

I... I'm not. Really sssure.

[Why did he hiss out that s sound? That was unnecessary.]

Hmmm.

[Lilly stares for a moment, then shakes her head and speaks with certainty. It makes perfect sense to her.]

If you're not sure, then you've either forgotten something or there is. This entire town has been strange today, hasn't it?

[Yes, it has been strange. It's been far too strange in a way that Jormungandr can't put into words.

But he can't put it into words not only because it's indescribable, but because he's having trouble speaking at all.]

[Loki's not on his skates today. He's walking. He knows he's got to be back home in time to take his wife and children (but they're not, he remembers his real wife and children, and they're not it) to Wes's barbecue, but he's got to get some space.

He's had two sets of memories in his head all day. Loki thinks he knows which one is real...but the others feel so vivid.

He sees Jormungandr, and a flash of memory stirs -- that's the kid Loki took under wing about ten years ago. Showed him the ropes, you know, how to thrive in a place like Mayfield. Jormy's practically family.

But he also remembers. I had a son named Jormungandr.

Loki hails him as the mentor.]

What're you doing out here all by your lonesome?

THAT IS OKAY. A TAG FROM YOU IS ALWAYS WELCOME. dearmungandr July 11 2011, 17:49:42 UTC
[Loki Laufeyjarson, used car salesman, practically a father figure...

Wait. Father. Was that... no, that couldn't mean anything. But the deep ocean lurking in the back of his head whispers that it does but why should the ocean be whispering? And why to him?

Nevertheless, when Loki says hello, he manages a nod and a greeting.]

Hello, L... Loki. [why was that so hard to say? Why is everything so hard to say?] I just... needed a walk.

[Wait. This is the guy who wasn't talking to him before. Loki's met him in the other set of memories.

His name is Jormungandr. That's the name of Loki's son. A son who definitely wouldn't walk, and the idea amuses Loki -- the part of Loki that's a god, that is. He can't help but laugh.

...wait, that laugh was rude, and came out of nowhere.]

Sorry. Something about what you just said was...funny to me.

YOU KNOW I LOVE YA BABE dearmungandr July 12 2011, 01:50:07 UTC
[He's quiet. By all rights he should get angry about being laughed at, or at least curious, but some part of him thinks he should know why and understand the joke. He... honestly doesn't know how to respond.]
