theres tons of different religions which all refer to worshiping some god(s) of some form.
athiesm is one of the few that's about not believing in anything without proof.
its a simple matter:
the human mind is far too underdeveloped to comprehend the creation of the universe, whether it be by a god, or by any other means.
thus, all that's left is for people to believe what they want. some people need to see to believe, others do not. It's a matter of personal preference but as long as the debate is going, our minds will be able to expand and evolve enough to maybe one day, in a distant distant future if we dont kill ourselves before then, understand the true meaning behind everything.
i am never quite sure what i believe in, but last night i was looking up at the sky too and it was perfect and i sat in silence in the middle of the field and i think i came to the conclusion that science can take you to a point, but then thatÈs where religion takes in. this is maybe a bit naive of me to say but it makes me feel better when i think that there is a someting someone behind it all. i really like the arguements you put forward though!. i was at a religious school for three years so i heard so much of one side that i started to not even think about the possibility of anything. i think about God and religion more now, funny how it works.
When I look up at the sky, I think of it in terms of planets, galaxies, and essentially science, but I think in the same way I am awed at the way such beauty was formed. Such macrocosmic magnificence! haha.
I do not find that to be naive, because it is ordinary to fear the unknown, and it gives people comfort to have some sort of understanding. Personally, I like to not understand many things as it makes you curious and always questioning. More importantly, it keeps you always wondering. I suppose one can wonder at a god, but the Christian God is so defined, you must believe in Him to wonder at Him.
the universe collapsed into itself from too much "nothing" and formed all of this stuff.
out of nothing.
seriously when our brains get more advanced, i cant wait till everyone reads in text books about how we used to believe this theory and laughs because of how unbelievably stupid we all were for it.
again the same (or similar) could be said about god but it seems more likely that we're unable to comprehend a unified all-being entity than...the world forming from nothing.
i dont know.
the whole idea behind religion is just so much more comforting.
Unfortunately only 2 of my 5 lj friends showed up to this post. looool. Thanks a lot Jill, Karen, and Marlena. THANKS A LOT FOR NOTHING! I have 60 friends on myspace so it's not like I really care anyways! :(:(

Which is why this is such a good topic for arguing!
If you could disprove the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Christianity would fall.
If you could prove the existence of God, Atheism would fall.
I think it's more likely that the first would happen sooner. (although I'm not saying that either will ever happen necessarily :p)
