Maledisant might come upon a book with a colorful cover... hovering several inches off the top of a random table in the main room. It might lower a bit, as if whatever is holding it has looked up

Maledisant's walking through, and when she spots the floating book, she just raises an eyebrow and keeps going.

"Hey, where yah goin', gorgeous?" he asks, and he'll hover down from his perch, coming closer, to get a better look at her.

And to her eyes, it'll look like the book has flown down and come near her...

Maledisant's just going to ignore it and keep walking, because she's too proud to react.

"Ooh, you must not be able to see me," Ryuk realizes. He's not gonna let a pretty girl go, much less walk off on him. And so, typist willing, he'll take the scrap of Death Note paper that he keeps on hand from a nook in his vinyl garments and he'll attempt to touch it to the closest bit of uncovered skin he can reach.
