Cat Burglars, Zombies gone Wild!, Gunslinger action and reactions

Jan 06, 2005 21:32

Last night after spending a delightfully stressful evening with our parents and car dealerships, my brother and I returned home and were greeted by an intriguing sight, one of the scruffier neighborhood cats, whom we call Mr. Mistoffelees since we are partial to Team America as well as being unoriginal dorks, going from car to car hopping on the ( Read more... )

Hmmm, sounds like it's worth at least a casual read if it can evoke that type of response, even if King does pull a Gainax and does something horrible to characters he's gotten people to love. I'll just go the thrift store route or borrow them if the opportunity arises, thanks for the info. While we're on the subject of books, is there any series that you highly recommend?

Cool, I'll add them all to my list, the last 3 in particular sound really interesting, after I get a lion share of my projects completed I think I will start with them.

I'm going to join the Associated Artists of Butler County today! Finally. I've been meaning to for a while. Then I'll get gallery space, and invited to participate in all the shows. Maybe someday I'll apply to join the Assoc. Artists of Pittsburgh, they're a bit more tough to get into.. submitting slides, framed gallery-ready works, and money, just to be considered. Maybe next year, when I have enough work to submit and can pay someone to make decent slides. =] You should start posting your work, I'd like to see it.

Wow, I should look into seeing about if there is a similar organization here, that is after I get some things done worth displaying. Yeah, I never did the whole "senior exhibition" thing so I never got to learn the basics of the whole gallery experience as well as making slides and such, so that is something I definitely need to do, any tips on that type of thing ( ... )

I have to learn about that as well. I might be in my first show next month, actually, which should be interesting. They're having a 60's themed show, so the artwork of course has to relate to the 60's. The suggested themes are stuff like psychadelic, hippies, vietnam, all the typical stuff. I told Hunter I'd have to wait, I don't have anything like that, and he pointed out that I recently did a painting of 2 early 60's Bugeye Sprites, and have also done one of my 1968 MGB. I'm going to enter the bugeyes... haha... not quite what they had in mind, I'm sure, but it technically fits the criteria.

The art center is pretty neat, I got the full tour, and I'd say that 60-70% of the members are old ladies who watercolor. Maybe another 20% is crap. A few interesting things here and there. A decent sized library of art books that can be checked out, and space for any members to sell stuff... they only take 10% of the profit. Anyhow I'll let you know how the show goes.

Oh yeah, that was like last March or so, it seems like I end up asking people the same questions or wondering about the same things every 5 months or so, I must have an extra goto-10 line in my programming. Yeah, I will give King and his army of lamp-monsters another go I guess, but only if I see them at the thrift store (which is pretty much a guarantee now that i think about it).

Hey JM, Did you notice on the back of the cover of The Gunslinger that the pictures of King look hauntingly like someone we know.

And on a different but same subject all together, did you read any of the Bourne novels. If you have, have you read the ultimatum and legacy. I read the Bourne Identity after I saw the movie and read the Ultimatum cause I haven't got a chance to see that movie yet. Or do you now of someone that has read these cause I was wondering if they are worth the read. I like the first one, second was alright, but I'm kinda leary on the other ones.

My copy is an old one with just the front illustration cropped for the extra text on a black background so I haven't gotten to see the King pic, does he look like Ken? For some reason, I think it is just the way he carries himself and his mannerisms in pics, he has always reminded me of Ken, that and always hearing how the Gunslinger stuff was King's best work and how the WOT books should have ended at 3 from Ken on numerous occasions probably doesn't help.

You know, I haven't even seen the movies yet, Chris's boss who is a gun nut and has pretty decent taste in movies says they are great, I dunno, I think with the way the movies were promoted like every other "must see summer blockbuster!!!" they got lost in the shuffle, which sucks if they are cool. I'll ask Chris to see if his boss has read any of the series and what his take is on them.
