when you write an entry there is a few option like your current music and mood and so on and you have a option to make your entry public,friends only or private...when its private nobody but you can see it:)and in other options,i don't remember where in the settings you can choose to make your lj friend's only,with that one people can see your entry but they can't reply,i do both...
