Okay, I have tried to write up a response to last night's Supernatural twice and LJ kept eating it, so I decided to wait until this morning and got side tracked, so ... here is my late response to this week's episode. I've probably forgotten a bunch of things that I wanted to mention, but I'll get to them eventually... or bug people on IM with them

I KNOW! I was waiting for Sam to say something along those lines, and then have Dean cut him off. That would have been too prefect for words though ;-P
We are dangerously close to becoming a chick flick show though, has anyone else noticed this?
*Nods* There has been a LOT of emoting from these boys over the past couple of episodes. They're gonna need to reign that in a bit if they want to keep the macho-audience members...
John made a lot of mistakes, big ones, but he did love his children, he just didn't know how to raise them without Mary.
Agreed! The fact of the matter is, that despite all of the flaws that the boys have, they are still GOOD people. And I refuse to believe that they could be the product of a father who wasn't, at least in some way, loving. John's obviously done a lot of screwed up shit, but I think that that HAD to have been counter-balanced by some of good stuff as well.
Dean has had his Christmas present from Sammy for 16 years, and he LOVES IT!!! OH MY GOD! *dies and iz ded* ( ... )

Exactly! The boys could have turned out very angry and wild, but John did teach them a certain amount of discipline and to watch out for one another. He taught them how to survive, and that is not nothing. John loved his boys, he just didn't know how to show it in the ways that that Sam needed him to.

Meaning that until that year, John *had not* missed an xmas.
And i just...the last scene, and you could tell Dean was just *gleeful* and happy to have Sam celebrate a little with him and he wanted to pick Sam up and squeeze him but he can't do *that*... And just being the big brother and not questioning Sam and totally being 'this is awesome' and i think Sam was a wee bit drunk and *so close* to just curling up in Dean's lap and crying...
Oh, boys.
*happy sigh*

May I just say though a big fat word to the young actors. There was a tiny bit of overacting (just a tiny bit)but overall they did a great job and I was completely invested in their performance.
And as for everything else you posted? Yes, yes, yes, yes and oh so yes. Such a great show. Kripke must have thought we were all very good boys and girls this year.

I just hope that Kripke cleared it with their parents before he gave them the script that said that Santa didn't exist. :P

Hee on the clearing it with the parents.
And love your icon.

Colin Ford (little Sam) is going to be so good when he gets older.

As for the football tradition - it's true to some extent. However, it wouldn't really be feasible to play a game on Tuesday or Wednesday - especially not with another week to go after that. So, most years, it probably works, but not always. And there isn't a game on Christmas Day (Tuesday) this year - only the typical Monday Night Football. Thanksgiving is the holiday that I most closely associate with football, personally. [/football geekiness]
Anyhow, YAY! It was a FABULOUS episode. And now I'll miss it again for the next however many weeks ... =sigh=
