You're A Tragedy Starting To Happen

Jan 25, 2009 07:05

This is long overdue (over a month) feedback for obsessive24's vid "Red".... actually, it isn't so much feedback as commentary (I basically just talk about what I believe the vid to be doing) with a built in recommendation, but it is too long to leave as a comment in her journal and with the built in recommendation I felt it deserved a post of its own. Just very good indeed, have given feedback :) Why no Morgana, though - because she's not Mordred's mother in this, and therefore more linked to Merlin's tragedy than Arthur's?

Shall now pimp this all over my LJ :)

The way that is phrased I am not sure if you are actually asking me a question or attempting to answer one. Morgana, isn't actually necessary for this vid, and with what the character has done thus far in the series her presence would compete with Merlin in relation to Arthur.

And I am glad that the show didn't go the Mists of Avalon route with Mordred's parentage. We never saw Mordred's mother so they could still bring Morgause into it, but attempting anything close to MoA would have taken quite a few episodes, and would not have been easily explained to the family audience the show is aimed at. :P

Nicky managed to make the perfect Arthurian vid. without my favourite character. 0_o She is magic like that!

I agree :) Morgana is my favourite, but I thought there must be a reason she was left out when everyone else got a look in. And I didn't mean it as a criticism of the vid, I love it as it is.

I keep forgetting that Morgana as Mordred's mother is relatively recent (MoA, Excalibur). But then I've pretty much put my hands over my ears when it comes to this series and the legends, it's far too fun to let my myth snob reflex spoil it :)

Exactly, the show is surprisingly enjoyable, and who needs the nasty real myths? They were never terribly generous to Morgana, so we have just hide them somewhere and not the writers see them. :P

Oh my goodness, I don't even know what to say. Thank you so much for the amazing write-up! I am just incredibly blown away by the fact that you saw fit to analyse this vid in such detail, and the amount of insight that you exercise is just astounding. (There are a number of things that I can only say I wish I had meant for it to be the case because it makes me seem so much smarter than I actually am. ;) ) Once again, thank you so much for this. I'm totally saving it to my memories. :D Squee x 100!

I refuse to believe that it wasn't completely intentional! It may have been subconscious, but somewhere, deep down, you knew it all!

I can't even express to you how much I love this vid. It made me fall for the show before I even watched it, which is an amazing feat on its own considering how overly cracktastic everyone claimed it to be -- which I disagree with, and find it no more cracky than Buffy was in its early seasons.

I apologize for how long it took for me to write this up; I despise my own writing and will avoid it if at all possible. :P

A fantastic commentary on a fantastic video. I greatly enjoyed reading it, and it points out so many things I missed that I just have to watch the video once again right now.

I really enjoyed this commentary it's very insightful. The way you analyzed all the different elements that compose this vid (metaphors, lyrical interpretation, visual tools) is fascinating especially for someone like me who's trying to improve his vid reading skills. I'd love to read more commentaries from you.

Thank you; I am glad that it was enjoyed! Some vids lend themselves to this kind of analysis better than others, but ultimately it comes down to what you take away from the vid as an individual; no one is grading you on vid interpretation. However, if you are interesting in altering your vid reading levels, then I would suggest offering to beta for a few vidders if you don't already; it forces you to repeatedly look very closely at a vid and identify what it is trying to say, how it is trying to say it, and the places where it fails to do so. Informing a vidder of why something works or doesn't was a hard thing for me to learn, but I am improving. :)

As for further commentaries, I have 2 planned for the vid_commentary challenge.

Again, thank you for reading!
