Well Michael, if you were in love with a man who was catholic and believed in the sanctity of marriage (because there are Gay Catholics out there) and says he will not have sex until marriage, or perhaps you two want to adopt a child, but you can't cus you need to be MARRIED.. then maybe you might fight a little more for this whole 'marriage' issue.. It means nothing to you because you CAN to do, you can sign up right now if you wanted to! but for them, they can't and that sucks.. (until now) I mean there are about a million and one reasons why people get married, sometimes it's because they actually love each other.. so if no one stops to questions WHY people are getting married, why should we question WHO is getting married..? WHO CARES IF IT’S 2 MEN or 2 WOMEN? It’s like we know that being Gay is sin, so we feel that sinners cannot enter into marriage because that is considered holy? It’s like watching a prostitute enter a cathedral.. it’s fine to see her outside, but don’t go near MY place of holiness! Bull shit ( ... )

the point, mike, is that freedom from descrimination, like you said, is a basic human right.

and saying gays can't get married is descrimination.

plus: the government separating itself from the church? what a concept!

Listen man, I'm not going to say you or your buddy John Stuart Mill is wrong, but when the religious fundamentalists come to the Supreme Court telling it that they're being discriminated by not being allowed to have multiple wives or arranged marriages (Which would make them discriminated against), then you'd damn well be picketing 24 Sussex in support of these oppressed minorities.

(FYI, there is already a polygamous sect in BC that is claiming discrimination)

in that case, that is also discrimination... i acknowledge that and agree with ralph klein on their government getting out of the marriage business altogether. i think churches should give marriages, and then people can go to get their marriage recognized at some beurocrat's office.

as for bigamy, perhaps there can be some sub-clause style union not unlike a corporation, where they all have tax benefits.

arranged marriages? contract law. its so simple.

my question is what happened to the decriminalization of marijuana "issue" which was so big last year (and the couple years previous)?

Good question! The marijuana laws have been in limbo for over a year and it's not helping anyone to keep it on the backburner. I guess the slogan for parliament this year is "smoke cock, not weed".

I'm not saying that as a negative slant... can you imagine that as a protest sign? It'd be better than the ones I saw women holding up saying "My Bush: Good... George W. Bush: Bad"
