“Is that all you’ve got?” the Dark Kamui smirked with easy confidence at his rival, chuckling deeply. His arm, deceptively relaxed, gripped his sword languidly.

Kamui spun around sharply, toes barely touching the deck of the tower, and faced Fuuma with eyes flashing. Blood pulsing through his veins, his power thrummed through the electrified air. “Don’t underestimate me!” He hissed viciously.

Gathering his energy around him, he slowly ascended into the air, his body hovering a few feet off the ground. Without saying anything, he and Fuuma both knew that this was the last moment to strike. His mind torn between determination and anguish, he struggled to focus.

Fuuma took off toward him, sword drawn, ready to make the earth his once and for all.

Time seemed to slow to mere droplets before him…he saw it happen in brief flashes: Kamui’s sword slipping out of his limp hand, his eyes rolling back into his skull as he crumbled backwards; then his body pulled ramrod straight and taut like a puppet yanked by invisible strings, his palms lifted heavenward, the sky so blue behind him.

The Dark Kamui was so close, his sword slicing through space to cut down his matching star when he was flung away by a sheer wall of force. Kamui was untouchable.

He was also in unbearable pain. The release of his power put immense pressure on his psyche, the nerves at the tips of his fingers burning; they were the exit point for the explosion of strength. He didn’t know how much longer he could last as the conduit for fate.

His right shoulder injured by the blunt force of his failed attack, Fuuma smashed his head into ground after he was thrown back. Gingerly touching the back of his skull with his good arm, he looked down at fingertips glinting wet with blood.

Suddenly a switch flipped somewhere in the deep recesses of his mind, a disconnect between his reality and his unyielding rage, and he felt the control of the Dark Kamui leave him. Barely conscious after that startling breath of renewed life, he strained to look at Kamui with weak eyes.

Glowing like an immense beacon, hot and pure and bright, Kamui’s form lingered in the sky, shaking with the burden. He had been calling him back after an eternity lost at sea.

He close his eyes and then he was falling, his mind spiraling away into the comforting light.

Then the earthquakes hit.

When Fuuma came to, the ground was swaying beneath him, odd rolls of movement. Small rocks of debris were jumping around his head; a glance out onto the city showed a world gone mad, signs falling off buildings, cars left abandoned and scattered as their owners searched for cover.

With great effort, he turned his head to see Kamui, his form still so bright, a visible aura of energy crowning his skin.

He struggled to his feet and made his way over to him, the waves of power nearly forcing him back again. He gathered his strength and pushed through the force, whiplashes of the energy stinging and cutting his face as he made his way through, until finally he could wrap his arms around Kamui’s waist.

Immediately, the torrents ended and the bright light vanished, and Kamui slumped over onto Fuuma’s shoulder, completely unconscious. Fuuma turned toward the city, bleeding and wasted, and leapt off the edge of the deck into the unknown.
