He didn’t know where to go next. Didn’t know how much money was left, didn’t know…
The brisk cold forest was unsettling, mossy trails untouched by other hands, unlike the well-marked streets of L.A. Unseen animals stirred, encircling him, but the detective felt blind, alone in these dark woods.
D’s hand stroked Leon’s hair, so pale in the window’s moonlight as he slept unaware in his icy lodgings.
“Do you like my incense, Mr. Detective?”
All Leon found in the deserted shop the next morning was a saucer of steaming, overturned tea grounds containing his unreadable fortune.

A/N: Nod is the land where Cain was exiled to after he murdered Abel; it's located east of Eden (hence John Steinbeck's novel by that title). It's also a term(?) for sleeping, so I thought it was suitable.
