Hogwarts Houses for your favourite Hunger Games characters? :D (I assume this is not a new thought for you)

I'll go THG on this because otherwise this'll get stupid long if I keep doing multiple fandoms ( ... )

I've always thought Haymitch and Peeta share more in common than Haymitch and Katniss. They've both got that manipulator thing down.

Agreed. Granted, I think Haymitch is probably a bit smarter than him and able to play a better "quickly adapt and manipulate my circumstances" game. Peeta was clueless in CF about Haymitch's plan, after all. And even comparing the two of them at sixteen--I'm sure Peeta had help from Haymitch on developing the romance arc, and Haymitch faced a doubled field, a much tougher arena, and likely very little to no sponsorship at the start.

But it's like comparing two levels of exceptional. ;) No question they're both talented in quite similar ways, so I was frankly surprised Peeta seemed as clueless about Haymitch as he was. (Plot necessity, I expect.)

100 words? Psh. Add another 0 if you want. ;)

So just why is there a lack of Haymitch ships? And why should there be more?

There's a lack of Haymitch ships because a lot of people are unfortunately somewhat shallow and refuse to admit that a middle-aged man, and one with life issues, has the right to be acknowledged as much a romantic or sexual being as a hot twentysomething ( ... )

All sound thoughts. I definitely agree people's hesitation to ship him with anyone is stemmed from their discomfort in acknowledging that he's an actual (okay fictional) person and not just someone to attach the snarky lines to.

Interesting you brought up his lack of bathing obsession. I commented on trovia's Spin Control pointing out that Haymitch doesn't bathe religiously like it was written in the story. Her reasoning was the same as yours, and you're both right that he should be obsessed with cleaning. So it's such a telling, shocking detail that he isn't ( ... )

I do think there's a tendency to treat him as either the "funny drunk" to laugh at, the "snarky asshole" for Katniss to scream at and even physically beat up "because he deserves it", or the "fortune cookie wisdom" just there to make someone else's romance happen ( ... )

Your thoughts so far on LoK? Get as critical as you want, seriously. I'm totally interested in your thoughts on how they're handling the mini-series so far.

I think it shows that they only planned on one season to begin--they rushed some things (airbending, the Avatar state, etc.) that might have worked better in a leisurely fashion. But for season 2, they've opened up some interesting new avenues by showing that Korra still isn't ready to be the Avatar and that the world is not shiny and happy just because Amon is gone ( ... )

Amen. It's sad that the writing/storytelling that made A:TLA so distinct and remarkable is suffering for the sake of the fans who wanted more of it. There's an obvious fan service besides the show's existence - the characters are older, which shows that they want to target the demographic that grew up with A:TLA, and they upped the romance ( ... )

Yeah, I think there's some growing pains as they're trying to appeal to an older audience, and it's like...we were fine with the Gaang, adults liked the show plenty.

OH THE GREAT DIVIDE. I love how they mock it in "Ember Island Players." EIP was a glorious episode.

Good Johanna headcanon. I still think she and Gale really just won't work together in any circumstances to give each other what they need--their Fire natures are just going to egg each other's worst, most aggressive and impulsive qualities on, but I agree immediately post-war it would be far more obviously disastrous. Sorry. It's one ship that will just never work for me. ;)

I definitely agree on Haymitch, pre-Annie (or non-Annie) Finnick, or Peeta, though.

Argh, Johanna as wingwoman. RAAAAGE. ;)

I typically like my villains well-developed. Yeah, occasionally you just need an outright puppy-kicking asshole, but I think that's rare and it's frankly kind of boring and unrealistic to just depict black-and-white psychopaths. Even the villain, in their own mind, is the hero of the story ( ... )

You nailed most of the reasons why I adore Selina Kyle. She's aware that she lives in the grey and she just fucking OWNS it.

Additionally, by some weird alchemy, Selina makes Bruce WAY more palatable in most situations.

And Barbara is SO great. And YES, she had romantic relationships post-wheelchair. I just cannot get over the wonderfulness of Barbara rising above her shooting and becoming one of the most powerful characters in the DC universe.

Question back to you: least favorite cowl-wearer among the Batfamily, and if you know Green Lantern, least favorite Earth-born GL?

I know next to nothing about the GLs. My least favorite of the Batfam, though, is Tim Drake. I understand why people like him, I readily admit that I have not read the comics where he shines, but fuck, he just reads to me like this HUGE fucking hypocrite and I just want to smack him across the face.

It's easy for Bruce to just get annoying with his angst and his JUSTIIIIIIIIICE--I feel like Selina brings out a more interesting, playful side to him with how she challenges him.

I was hoping you could tell me more about the GLs. XD

How is he a hypocrite, if you don't mind explaining? Like I said, I don't really know the comics, so I'm always interested in people's perceptions of the chars.
