Today my economics teacher was talking about elasticity of demand and used a hypothetical example of a price on air. No matter what the price is set at, people still need air, therefore it would be inelastic. That got me thinking. What an interesting concept: a charge for air. Ooh, I would read an editorial blog if you started one. And probably even comment, haha.

Also, I seem to remember a short story which incorporated the very idea of charging for air... they did it by volume, though I do not remember how it was measured. Athletes were the poorest of the poor.

Oooh, and countries with purer air could charge more per breath, or whatever. Only rich people would be able to live full-time in clean-air regions, while poorer people would go visit those places on vacation. It'd be an absolutely horrendous system, but it's fascinating to think about.
