When Nico had agreed to this whole going out in public to eat cold food thing, he'd kind of imagined it going a little differently. Certainly he hadn't thought he'd be buying ice cream for a little kid.

Jason had followed Nico and his puppy from the ice cream place, using the nice, friendly puppy as a guide. He was totally going to have to make some eye holes in his bucket tomorrow, but for now, it was still awesome just the way it was. "Are we safe?" he asked, sitting down next to Nico after only toppling off the bench once.

If Nico cared about how the ice cream attendant had stared, he might have sighed more when Jason fell off the bench. "Yes. Mrs. O'Leary would let us know if there were any bad guys around," he supplied, ripping off the lid of her tub and tossing it to the hellhound in hopes she'd quit drooling on him. "We're completely safe."

"Well, if you say so..." Jason said, hesitating for a moment before pulling the bucket off of his head. "Wow, everything sounds quiet now."

"That's 'cause it's not echoing around your head anymore," Nico told him, kind of amazed at how much Jason looked like the pictures at Percy's mom's house. "It must get hard to eat with your uh, disguise on."
