Codswallop and tomfoolery

[phone, morning]
If they aren't back by the end of the month, I'll eat my poker.  What trollop.

And please, if you're wrought with utter despair and you absolutely must subject the rest of us to incessant blather about how wonderful Disappeared Whom and Whom was and how unworthy you are to still exist, etc., ad nauseam, try to space it out evenly so ( Read more... )

Shit, I dunno. This place is messed up enough for me to believe all those people are really gone.

Of course they're gone. For now. But they'll be back next Monday wondering why we've been writing eulogies for the last week.

You sure? I mean, I'm new here, but if they did that, what would the freakin' point even be? Makin' people feel like shit? Is that it?

Precisely. There we go, I'm glad someone cottons on quickly.

You see through this, then? You know this is all just another ruse?

[Oh thank goodness, there's someone else here who's still sane.]

Obviously.

...Now who is this, and why do you sound like a stiff recording?

[Wait, what.]

This is no time for jokes.

Which is why I'd appreciate an explanation.

Mayfield does have a habit of resetting itself when all is said and done, doesn't it? Scientifically speaking. [With repeated trials netting the same results, even!]

Still... I worry that at some point, there's going to be something it can't--or won't--reset. There's precedent.

Internal politics has nothing to do with the rest of us. Grady and the Achewood woman were the result of some sort of infighting.

I know. But it's proof of concept that they don't have to reset every time something goes wrong. It's better to be too cautious than the opposite.

[A heavy sigh.]

Even if things do get better, it's not exactly pleasant to deal with.

They don't have to. But until one of us gets herself bumped off, I'm not going to waste time worrying about unlikely scenarios. And given that I've been on the receiving end of a few punishments myself, it seems quite unlikely to me that the annual Christmas incident will be cause for permanent changes. It's practically part of a schedule.

[He's just out for a walk. He doesn't want to be in the house right now. But stops when he see's her. Right....Slugger had been on the list. Which really he shouldn't care about at all. No reason to...]

Hello.

[And yet he finds himself going to speak with her anyway. She should know better then anyone if Slugger is really gone.]

[Johan is the recipient of something of a dour expression. Susan grasps her shopping bags more securely.]

Hello.

Happy Hogswatch and all of that nonsense.

....Hogswatch? I can't say I've heard of that one.

[Not the important point though.]

....Is Slugger gone?

[Not that he cares really. But there's a small trace of actual worry in his own voice that he doesn't want to admit he can hear. If he ignores it, then no one will notice right?]

[Susan hears that tinge. But given her own suspicious nature and what Nina has said to her, she chalks this off as his remarkable ability to feign genuine emotion.]

We have Slugger's inadequate half-identical cousin subbing-in for a week or two. Check back next Monday and I'll see if I can give a more positive answer.
