technically, any time you give anyone your phone number, thats potentially a telemarketer. so in that sense, yes telemarketers have your cell #s. and the national do not call list is a joke. they will never inforce it. it's completely unfeasable, even for companies that do want to comply, and any aggressive telemarketers wont. not to mention the distinction between telemarketer and non-telemarketer. I get yelled at and called a telemarketer on a regular basis, and people tell me I'm not allowed to call them, even when I'm returning calls for info they have requested us. The do not call list is a joke and is just a front for useless lawsuits. Companies will get around it, and who is going to go to court over telemarketers other than the clinically insane.

Sorry, rant.

Well, I've personally had a lot less telemarketing calls since I've been on the list, my home used to get about 6 a day, and we don't get any now ( ... )

well with any financial institutions, there are privacy policies about when and how they can introduce themselves. Ie. when I worked for captial one, I could not identify to them that I was calling from collections unless I had ascertained that I was speaking to the cardholder... regulations like that may exist with mortgage companies as well.

and with regards to why not mail it out (1) postage!, (2) trees! and third, where I work, the information is time sensitive so mailing is not a feasable option. (not to mention, most of my outgoing calls consist of "Hi, this is Ainslie at OOC calling with regards to your request you made, I just wanted to verify that by digging by hand you meant spade pick shovel or rototiller. Ok great, well thanks for you help and have a great day!"
