battlestar galactica - in the future, it's all about the analog

Is it just me, or do the humans in battlestar galactica use some sort of ammplitude modulation or possible something like single sideband modulation for all their military communications? I know they are trying to act like 1940s technology peice of crap floating in space with added FTL drives, but it seems incredibly stupid. Why don't the silons ( Read more... )

I mean you know there's got to be some audio engineer with a soundboard just frobbing the pitch and compression and others wanting to shoot himself.

They actually explain that in the miniseries.

The reason that everything is analog is that B.G. was built in the middle of the Cyclon wars, and was designed so that all systems were disconnected from one another, and as uninfiltratable as possible by the Cyclons, who were basically master hackers.

As they said in the show, the B.G. was built in a time when the Colonies were so scared of their enemies that they looked to old technology for answers.
