Does Deathy have a recommendation for getting into reading the WoW books to learn about lore that won't involve the book sailing through the air?

Well, if you'll take my rec, Lord of the Clans is not too bad. It's got timeline issues (all the books do) and it's contradicted by later books in ways that make me facepalm sometimes, but it's easily the best read of the Warcraft books.

I like the short story "Of Blood and Honor" too, about Tirion Fordring. By happy chance it's in the same anthology as Lord of the Clans.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Deathy hates to say it, but... if you want to know what happens in the books, the best bet is probably to check WoWpedia and see if they have a synopsis.

That way you get the basic idea without being exposed directly to the terrible writing.

Sod thinks this is wise, if Deathy didn't like the beginning he would REALLY not like the end ( ... )

There's also the fact that Thrall, as the Warchief, would know when he isn't up to a task, or at least would suspect, and would voice his feelings on the matter. A leader of his caliber wouldn't stay quiet and possibly mess things up, because it's exactly the sort of thing he'd nail an underling to the wall for.

And now to rant a bit more about that stupid stupid quest line...

Aggra, you amused me, but now that I've heard more about you, Deathy is no longer amused. You must be spectacularly dense if the "reveal" that Thrall wanted peace surprised you.

Deathy also wants to complain about "Thrall wants kids!" Deathy has no problem with Thrall wanting kids. Deathy does have a problem with it being totally unhinted to until now. Especially since they're kids with Aggra.

We just met this chick stop pushing her on Thrall, Blizzard. Not all of us read the books. And given what I've seen and heard of the books, not all of them deserve to be read ( ... )

I may have said this before, but Thrall's character arc through Wrath and Cata ONLY makes sense to me if viewed through the lens of mental illness.

Consider that Thrall:
- was once decisive but now wavers over everything, or tries to run away from having to make decisions at all
- has been known to lose his temper at people and circumstances that don't deserve it, while failing to slap down people who DO
- clearly has a great deal of internalized guilt, doubt and worry, but sticks his head in the sand re: perfectly obvious ways to improve
- avoids people who've been his long-time friends and mentors, but attaches himself almost desperately to a woman whom he doesn't know and initially doesn't even LIKE, just because she expresses an interest in him

THIS IS NOT THE BEHAVIOR OF AN EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY WARCHIEF, people. More to the point it's not behavior I'd have expected of THRALL.

And yes, as the__ivorytower and I concluded, if Aggra's been in a relationship with Thrall for months and never realized he wants a family, what the HELL have they ( ... )

Deathy thinks you have mentioned this, and he really does agree.

It would be nice if something terrible happened to Aggra, though. Not that Deathy is suggesting he'd do such a thing. *Hides the lava buckets.*

Deathy... really does not get why Blizzard was so anti Thrall/Jaina, either. Aside from race, they mesh fairly well, and even a political alliance would have majorly upset the status quo and put the Horde and Alliance on the road to pea-

Oh.

We can't have THAT, now, can we? Not in WoW. Not ever.

Thrall really does smack of temporary insanity, doesn't he? We can only pray it's because of the spirits of the world being in turmoil and causing feedback into him. Because that's about the only excuse for this nonsense Deathy will take.

Aggra is not an interesting character, since, as he thinks you or Ivory mentioned, everything about her revolves around him in some way.

Hell, match Thrall up with Alexstrasza. That would be an interesting courtship and relationship.

Deathy wouldn't be adverse to slash, either, but that seems to ( ... )

The book is on the whole pretty terrible, there will be a rant about it later, post homework and other things.

Needless to say, of all the stupid fuckery in the book, the lines at the end make me really and truly rage.

Deathy is looking forward to this rant.

Especially hearing about the last part of this book. Ooooh, boy.

And if *this* book was bad, wait until you see the 'Jaina Novel' that Golden's writing right now; Apparently Golden feels the Thrall/Jaina ship isn't sinking fast enough for her liking she feels she isn't making her mark in WoW lore fast enough, it seems.

Yeeeearghblble.

... Deathy fears what she'll do to poor Jaina.
