So I actually did try to keep up with the Meme, but LJ hates me so I'm finally getting back on it and will accommodate for all the lost time (since I should be up to Day 9) as follows:
Day 02: Favorite Song Off of 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge'
Winner:
I Never Told You What I Do For A Living Runner-Up:
Helena Honorable Mention:
Thank You For The Venom I'm a broken record. Just great, fun, awesome songs with really cool lyrics so check 'em out if you like. Some of my favorite songs to just drive around with my friends, no direction in mind, and just scream.
Day 03: Favorite Song Off Of 'The Black Parade'
Winner:
Disenchanted Runner-Up:
Mama Honorable Mention:
The Sharpest Lives Disenchanted is just such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics and one of my favorite songs of all time. It's perfect. Mama is just epic, one of the greatest songs to sing along to. Liza Minnelli is super creepy, and "This shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun" is golden. I love The Sharpest Lives for the storytelling quality of the lyrics and the strong imagery--just a bad ass song.
Day 04: Favorite Song Off of 'Danger Days'
Winner:
Sing Runner-Up:
Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back
Honorable Mention:
Planetary (GO!) What can I say about Sing? Its arranged powerfully, it has a powerful message, and I loved it immediately. I hate that its been so played out that its start to lose some of it genius because its such a powerful anthem that I can't state it enough. They took it to the next level with this song, and it's the kind of song that music is about. Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back has a great classic rock sound to it, fun syncopation, another call to action and an anthem of freedom. Planetary (GO!) you either hate or love, and they've gotten a lot of flack for the techno sound of it, but its just so politically aware, relevant, and actually says something that I have to worship it. I greatly appreciate the Japanese imagery paired with the lines, "They sell presentable, young, and so ingestible, sterile and collectible, safe, and I can't stand it," because it reminds me so much of the Japanese pop idol manufacturing that I applaud the irony.
Day 05: Favorite MCR Music Video
I'm Not Okay (I Promise) You know, the second version with the movie trailer and prep school uniforms. What isn't to like? Frank is drinking out of beakers and popping out of lockers? Mikey kicks the mascot in the head. Ray's biting crayons and spinning in a chair. Gerard makes so many golden faces throughout the whole thing and it starts out with one of the nerdiest, most epic conversations ever featuring the strangest list of hobbies I've ever heard of in my life. Win.
Day 06: Favorite MCR Song Not On An Album
Desert Song Haunting. Powerful. Gee's voice sounds awesome. The were cracked in the head to not include it. Seriously, if you haven't listened to it, just do and enjoy.
Day 07: Favorite Life on the Murder Scene Moment
The Drunk Kickball Game: "This shit is easy peasy pumpkin peasy."
MCR Secret Santa: "It's for the hamster that I'm going to buy!" And when Bob gets 'excited' about Mr. Bean it's so anticlimactic compared to everyone else it kills me.
Frank's "Magic" Trick: "Watch this shit..."
Another good moment you'd have to look for is right after Gerard talks about his drinking problem and they show clips from that time, they put the camera back on him and he's taking a drink from a glass and they feel the need to put on the screen that its 'Diet Soda,' which cracks me up every time because not only did they have to tell us it was soda, but that it was diet, too.
Other Good Highlights Can Be Found
Here Day 08: Favorite Moment From 'The Black Parade is Dead!'
Honestly, don't really have one, but you can watch the trailer
here.
I don't know, it's an MCR show, and they're all a lot alike. Theatrical, over-dramatic, and Gerard says some crazy stuff while Frank rolls around like he's having a seizure, and its all great.
Day 09: A MCR Song That Instantly Makes You Smile
You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison Excuse me, I think my 'Revenge-Era' fankid is showing.
No, seriously. I love this song. I love Bert. I love push-ups in drag. I love singing along to this song. I love getting crazy eyes and going "Nobody knows all the trouble I've seen!" I love how at the end when they're doing the 'now now now' part it sounds like (to me) now now cow, and when I used to drive around listening to this with my friends, we'd pass a lot of farms, and I could sing it to the cows to make them feel special.
All around awesomeness.
Thus completes catch-up. I do not endorse the lyrics on any of the videos as I haven't checked them all, so sorry if they're wrong or something. Just wanted people to be able to listen along. Yay!
