Can anyone give a recommendation for a good blogging community for artists? I'd like to do some more networking beyond LJ. Is there a network of blogs that galleries, collectors, professors, and museum folx look at? Thanks in advance!

I am so very vague on this, but my husband was trying to explain to me something about how some blogs are set up so that if you link to someone, they know about it, so they can link back to you. So if I link to you in my blog saying Deb has great art, check it out, you know I did that and you can link back to me. So it creates a network. If anyone else here can explain this better, or even knows what I am talking about, cool, otherwise I will see if he can explain it, since he is supposed to be helping me with my crafting blog.

You can do that just by reading the referal logs, though I've no idea if that's what your husband was talking about.

It's only possible if you've access to your logs, and read them regularly, though, which most people do not do, and so you can't really count on it as a way of networking.

I think I've seen that before on people's blogs- it's called Blogroll. And they list blogs they read under it.

sounds like you are referring to the trackback system. good stuff.

I just started a journal at blogger. It doesn't really seem to have a community. But with all the drama that goes on on LJ...it's kind of nice to just have a clean blog just dedicated to art. Have you checked out typepad? I think that may have a community type atmosphere too. As to whether galleries, museums, etc. look at them-beats me. That's a very good question though.

i recommend movable type. they have a trackback system, which is what i think dragonfly is referring to.

Do I host it myself?

yep. you will need a host that offers a database, like MySQL.

does your host maybe have Fantastico? cause that would be sweet. if they do, go in to it and see what blog scripts they offer.
