I will attempt to argue that, while corruption is likely to be present in many forms of Socialism, it is an inevitability at the heart of Capitalism. I will argue in favor of the nationalization of any industries (health care, manufacturing, agriculture) that my opponent cares to discuss. Finally, I will attempt to expose the exploitative nature of the Capitalist economy and offer some Marxist and post-Marxist solutions for your consideration.
I will continue after my opponent has had an opportunity to respond and to present his opening argument.
You got home, you present the opening argument. I'll rebut your argument, but I personally think capitalism is morally indefensible and utterly fails on utilitarian grounds, and I'm not about to get forced into making an opening argument in favor of something I absolutely loathe when I'm the away team. I might stand a chance of winning this if I can put you on the defensive and trip up your argument, but I'm sooooo not going first if I don't have to, and since you're home, I don't have to.
Also, I just need to point out that I really think this debate is bullshit. I might as well be asked to defend child molestation or date rape. I have no idea why I got stuck with defending plutocratic exploitation capitalism. In my opinion, arguing socialism vs capitalism is like arguing Rape is A Crime vs Rape is Just Boys Having Fun. Total fucking bullshit.
I'd much rather debate libertarian socialism ("anarchism") versus authoritarian socialism ("marxism").
Argh. You're style of "debate" is very frustrating. You keep saying what you're going to argue, and then proceed to not actually argue for any of it. I'd like to see your actual arguments, and, I dunno, maybe a position more concrete than "Socialism is better than capitalism." You're sort of forcing me to define socialism for you, which is like, digging your own grave.
There's not really anything for to rebut here, since you haven't asserted anything meaningful. But, okay, I'll give it a shot.
Private enterprise should be outlawed across the board.
This is an idea so bad that it boggles the mind. First of all, you might as well say "I intend to stamp out all human creativity." Second of all, you'll never pull it off. Even in the heart of Moscow, there was a thriving black market. Today in North Korea you can buy everything from Japanese TVs to homes on the black market
