Hello Fellow Debaters,

I would like to update this site with another topic, but first I think it would be fair to ask a few questions to the people who have helped make this site alive: you all. It is currently 1:52am on April 18th and I will post something later on tonight, but I would like ideas to suit your interests more. After all, this site ( Read more... )

If people aren't posting out of boredom, they can participate in the new topic while continuing the discussion in the old topic. That said, I feel like the current topic has been stale for a couple of days and it's pretty much just me and nuke_mercenary swappying rhetorical commentary at this point. I say when the activity in the topic has dwindled down to stable back and forth between pairs of posters, it's time to post a new topic. No set number of days ( ... )

Well, I think the last topic has been picked apart about as much as it's gonna be. Basically, I think that when the topic stops getting posts from the majority of the community, it's time to change topic.
I appreciate you giving us the opportunity to chose a topic to talk about. This way, we can all contribute. That makes it a real community!!=)
I would love to discuss mental health issues, or animal rights. You don't have to use those ideas, but they interest me.
Let's hope the next topic doesn't end like the last, in another xrated/nuke debate...lol. Let's all stay involved!!
Dook Dook,
Chrissy
PS. For those who are wondering, "dooking" is the noise that ferrets make when they are happy, and they are jumping/hopping all over the place to express it.

What do you mean by Water Rights? Also, I didn't think there were situations where abortion was covered by medical- I now want to look into that for the future!!!! Maybe you can do a post on it.

For everyone, I hope you read this, so what I can do is accept articles from you guys and post them. You will be given full credit for your article. I just want only one person to have access to posting so the general population of this site doesn't have too many posts going on at once. It would be great to see you guys writing as well so I can also clean up my style: we can learn from each other with writing styles. It may pose a problem when this site gets many more members. Please advertise it in your personal journal because the more people that join, the more exciting these debates shall become.

My e-mail if you want to submit one is an472423@dal.ca. Since that is a University address, I'm not sure if I'll still have it throughout the summer (though I should). Just if you write, please say what your Livejournal username is. I would love ( ... )

Part 2- "Qualifications on Posting" olpluvr April 18 2005, 23:46:53 UTC
Also if you post, please put online sources to back up opinions-preferably for both sides that can be debated.

I've been working on a post for tonight, so these thoughts haven't been taken into consideration for these posts. It will take into effect for the next one I post. Again, I would more than definately appreciate if someone e-mailed me with a post once in a while: doing these are hard work since you must ensure (to the best of your ability) that it keeps personal opinion out and you elaborate on both views.

It's the comments that matter with your own personal thoughts, not in the original post. As for length, it doesn't matter as long as the content is accurate and gets across the main argument and shows both sides.

I'm lenient, so don't worry if you e-mail me a post and I decline it. If I do, it would be under VERY harsh circumstances (Eg.- bad grammar/spelling, no real argument). Even if there is incorrect information, I will post it with credit given, and then attack it myself in the comments! With bad spelling/grammar ( ... )

Sunday Shopping/ Americans olpluvr April 19 2005, 00:19:41 UTC
I know you and a few others on this site are from the US- we are in Canada, so I'm not sure if you have the same sort of debate in your state, or in any state.

Basically, the majority of us are located in the Maritimes (east coast of Canada) and have an issue with this. Every year, weeks prior to Christmas, stores are open on Sunday so that people can get their shopping done. The debate is whether or not to keep it all year round but many people are against that because of religious beliefs... that Sunday is the day of God (not too sure on everything behind that, so I hope someone else will write about it).

As for fellow Americans, I hope that one of you could write something on the war on Iraq. Not that Canadians aren't able to or shouldn't, but I would be highly interested in reading an article completed by an American on this issue. I'm not convinced that Canadians know as much as Americans. Though the post would be double sided, I would just like to see a post done by an American (I hope that doesn't sound prejudiced).

Er... about the closest thing I can think of here in South-of-Canada would be liquor stores not being open on Sundays.

Which reminds me of a story about the Nashville Convention Center.

It was built right across the street from a church. Somewhere along the way the head honchos in this church dug up a pretty obscure law about if being prohibited to serve beer within 300 yards of a church. As it came out, they were trying to squeeze the NCC for a cut of the concession profits, but the Center wasn't negotiating so they went public with the law like they had just discovered it and hadn't been in backroom dealings for weeks.

Anyway, the NCC said, basically, that they would paint the dividing line of the 300yard radius through the facility and not serve beer inside the circle. The church was happy. Instead they'd only serve hard liquor. The church was not happy.

Eventually the NCC got an exception to the law and the issue went away. I'm pretty sure they kept the liquor license, though.
