The Abortion Issue

Jul 13, 2005 22:18

Abortion Issue:
  1. No one should tell a woman that she has to/ should/ can’t have an abortion.
  2. A fetus is a living being- to take a life is immoral and should be illegal.

What is the right to life? Can we kill someone in self- defense? Does a fetus have rights?
  1. What is a person?

A thing is a person to the degree that it:
  1. Can feel pleasure and pain ( Read more... )

You state, "If two people are responsible enough to have sex...". I can clarify what the exceptions you said certainly are.

The woman who is raped by a man and she carries his child? She did not make the decision whether or not she wanted his penis thrusting inside of her. That has nothing to do with repsonsibility. Many would disagree that abortion would be the correct solution, but it would be the solution of the woman making it-- no one else.

It would be responsible if the man and woman involved (if consentual) made the ultimate decision together, but in many cases in this day and age, the man is not around when the woman chooses to have an abortion. In some cases, this is why a woman has one. It is up to the woman what she can live with:

A) Keeping her child and not being able to provide the best life possible for him/ her.
B) Giving her child up for adoption and live with the possiblity of her child going from adoption (place?), back and forth, where the child is subject to a horrible life of abuse and resentment towards life ( ... )

I really DO mean that for me a heartbeat signifies life. NOT to be confused with a person who's living in a state without brain activity but has a heartbeat. In those instances, the heart is being stimulated to beat through machines, the lungs getting oxygen to breathe by means of respirators.
So to clarify, I guess what I mean is in the instance of determining whether a fetus is "alive" or not, what I mean is that in my view, a heart signifies organ use, which signifies life.

Oh god oh god oh god. RULE #1 in debating: There are two topics you just stear clear of. They are;

1. abortion
2. legalization of pot

Someone mentioned that they had difficulty getting this community off the ground. My advice to you is try to come up with new and challenging topics that people can learn from and bring new angles to the table. Abortion and pot have been hashed to death and people are sick of debating these topics. I am a university debater and at tournaments, if you use either of these resolutions, the judges will HATE you. It is kind of an unspoken rule.

Just my two cents.

That is true that you should steer clear of it when debating vocally, but with this site-- anything goes. I've been trying to think of something motivating for my next topic, but have no luck thus far.

if abortion wasnt legal for people who are too stupid to protect themselves we would find A) A lot of back alley abortions with bad outcomes and B) a whole lot of unwanted children without homes. yeah sure people will want the babies at first but what about when everyone has enough and how can we as a society provide for the million kids that are going to be our responsibility ? Look at Romania. Russia. Ukraine. banning abortion is in some ways the same as banning birth control like in Romania. so tell me what do we do with all these parentless children? and dont tell me that a life, no matter how terrible is better than none at all. I have SEEN the life of an orphan up close and personal and it isnt nice. I wouldnt want that for my child if I got pregnant and couldnt provide for a child.

so they have the choice to use contraception but not to decide their future and the future of any potential child they may conceive....ps birth control is not failproof so even if they are responsible they could end up with an unwanted pregnancy. and why should a select few decide what is best for everyone else? there is waaaaay too much government in our life as it is, and abortion is just one more thing they can control. it is MY body and I should have all rights to my body and do with it what I please.

I'm glad you posted this.

The father should have no say, too many leave after the abortion anyway.

It shouldn't be legal, except in cases of rape, if the parent CAN'T afford the child, knows it will be challenged, or the parent has transmitted hiv to the baby or some other life-ruining disease.

I don't like abortion, because I've had personal experience. Everyone deserves to live. Everyone deserves a chance. No matter how far along the mother is, the child is still a life.

but what about the life ruining experiences the child will have in an orphanage because there are way too many unwanted kids being born and not enough being adopted? Say a child in an orphanage is sexually abused(happens with some frequency) he or she then goes on to abuse others and have no resources to deal with what happened and becomes just one more kid on the street, or adult on the street after they "graduate" out of the orphanage with no skills money or future, are you saying that is preferable to no life at all? I wholeheartedly do not agree.
