LJ Outrage {biased post, just to warn}

I received an e-mail from LJ saying that they banned this community, debatification. After looking into it, I realized that many communities were suspended just because of controversial content- specifically pedophilia. Perverted Justice is quoted in stating that LJ is "an aggressive Corporate Sex Offender". Reading this post gave me more insight to what's going ( Read more... )

1. They have the right to set the rules however they want. Many people are now aware of the other LJ-like sites out there.

2. Of course it was censorship. That's the whole point. LJ isn't entirely to blame because the adversary has the "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" card to push their agenda. They had the choice of deleting accounts and pissing of some users... or facing a "LJ supports child rape" smear campaign and pissing off more members.

3. Were they trusted in the past? Did you miss the breast feeding fiasco? For all we know the "accidental" banning is a chance for them to get some free publicity and handle the "mistake" gracefully: LJ protects the children AND their users!

4. Teenagers talk dirty on the phone. Is Ma Bell a corporate sex offender?

5. Driving things into the shadows or underground may make it seem like progress is being made. It isn't. Publicity ban-fests do nothing long term besides make people better about covering their tracks.
