2:45 a.m. Beautiful summer night, scattered clouds, scattered stars, some bird singing all the time. Jupiter is quite close to the moon. I was pretty sure it was Jupiter without looking into it, because it’s smaller than Mars or Venus, but bigger than Mercury or Saturn. Very bright. Had a nice day. It was a beautiful day, for one thing. Perfect lawn-mowing weather, which is what I did after visiting a middle school (or, as we called it in Illinois and/or my youth, junior high) to promote our teen group and other programs. I pulled out of my driveway this morning and pulled up to the first intersection, and there in the middle of my street was a Great Blue Heron. Just stood there. And he wasn’t particularly interested in moving, so I had to take a right instead of going straight the way I normally would.
