I just wonder why he's sitting surrounded by rubble. Is this supposed to be a photo of the Blitz?

I envisaged it as a deserted mining town, somewhere out West. The idea is that we create our own reality.and the man's surroundings are a projection of his inner life.

I see. How interesting it would have been if those ruins were a result of the Blitz, and those ruins were still a projection of his inner life.
