A study a couple of years ago showed that more people wrote poetry than read it. Which would seem to imply that some people are not reading their own work. Of course, anybody who deals with slush on a regular basis knew that already.

I sadly agree. Ask for stories and folks come out of the woodwork from every corner. Ask for a few bucks and everyone heads in the other direction. I have to say that getting over 100 pre-orders is a pretty fine achievement (the only time I've had double figure preorders is with TP's most recent, because a contributor wanted 10 copies).

Sadly I don't have answers, just empathy and support.

I just pre-ordered. I also posted a call about this on my website at http://www.jasonsanford.com/jason/2010/03/do-writers-suck-as-readers-prove-me-wrong.html

I hope this helps.
