grr, I can't make this plot point work

I cannot, for the life of me, find a Certain Type of Event I need to have happening on December 31, 1976, anywhere in the internet's annals of history. Evidently Elvis played his last New Year's Eve concert in Philadelphia that night? Wow. Not helpful for my purposes, internet.

Heya, it was in Pittsburgh, not Philadelphia.

Hope that helps!

At the risk of sounding presumptuous what sort of event do you need? Perhaps the community of readers might be able to help you find it. While admittedly pop culture is not my strong suit (I am a military historian), perhaps someone in the community might know. Besides, everyone is eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the apprentice, so I am sure you will find quite the community of willing research assistants.

Aww, thanks so much for the offer! I don't know how much of a "community" there is, really--I'm continually surprised whenever anybody comments on this livejournal, frankly!--but, without giving away too much of what's to happen in this chapter, I've decided that my event doesn't need to line up with an actual factual event of historical import.

Hoping to have chapter 17 up within the week!

Well, let me assure you that there are people reading your work and enjoying it.

After I stumbled across your fic, I read a few other Snape-centric stories and was struck by how absolutely none of them came close to the quality of your fic.

If you get stuck again, just ask for help and I'm sure people would be willing to assist.

I left a short review of your story on DLP. Here's a thread about your story: http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=18914

Hmm, I can't go back and re-read what exactly it was that I wrote, but I meant to comment that you could join DLP and post in the Work By Author forums to get feedback on your story.

Ack, your comments got stuck in the spam screener for some reason. Sorry about that!

In any case, thanks for your kind comments! I do have to confess that I've been following the reviews on DLP and definitely appreciate the objective (and blunt!) feedback (though it's mildly disheartening to read comments to the effect of "I guess it's fine but I rated 3/5 because I hate Snape"). I don't know if I can handle the commitment of joining DLP, though--forums are a huge time sink.

Ah, but what about all the comments like "Wow, I expected myself to hate any Snape-centric fic but I'm really liking this ( ... )

Also, I find myself curious about your Snape's thoughts/feelings regarding Harry. Does he have a grudging respect for him? Dislike him? Feel any regret that by dating Lily he's preventing him from ever living?

You don't need to add it in the story, I just want to know.

I figure the best compliment I can give you is that your story directly led to these two threads: http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=19050

I'm rand32085, so you inspired me and at least one other guy to go looking for more Snape fics. It was something I had never thought to read before. I know you personally reccomended "The Moment it Began", and I tried to read it, but Sindie's writing and characterization feel so clumsy compared to yours that I just couldn't get into it.
