Thanks to all for the warm welcome to LJ. Interesting to see just how many of my friends are active here. Along with spam I can see how LJ is contributing to the slow decline of email popularity

Q. How can I read the journal entries for a given person? I see that new entries for those on my "friends" list can be read when I click on the "friends" link but how can II go to one person's journal and read their last n entries?
Q. Which PC client program works best under Windows 98 SR2? I think I might find it easier to work with a client than work directly on the web. At least that is my hope.I use the client which is now called the Visions client. I haven't tried the semagic client, which is supposedly an enhancement of Visions. Thanks for the LJ advice. I'm sure I'll have many more questions as I go. I too hope to get back to GAFilk. My batting average with Atlanta is not all that good though. Three of the past four times I have been there I have been ill. Obviously I need to get there more often and stay well so my average improves. :)
To read given entries for a person, you can either click on their LJ link or browse to "www.livejournal.com/users/thatpersonsname", replacing "thapersonsname" with the username you want to browse.
It is common to use the Reply-to link. It's also common to have LJ e-mail you when you get a reply so you can respond to it. It doesn't tend to get cumbersome.
As for Windows clients, I can't help you there, as I'm on a Mac.
I look forward to seeing you later this month (Torcon).
LJ user links, generated by the name> tag, have two components: the first is a little icon (alt text "userinfo") that links to their user info; the second is the name, which links to their journal. For example, mdlbear.
If you use the emacs text editor, you might want to investigate the ljupdate package.

Just go to http://www.livejournal.com/users/ljname, where ljname is the name of the journal you want to read. For instance, mine would be http://www.livejournal.com/users/autographedcat/
