The EMO Doctor Who

The very sad title that some people who listen to their knee jerk reactions have labeled Matt Smith, the man due to take the key to the TARDIS from David Tennant next year. Of course this brand name they seem to have cooked up for the poor sod seems to have generated a whole load of silly and quite venomous bile from Doctor Who "fans". I know the ( Read more... )

I totally concur. bearing in mind some of the names that were wafted about for this part, I'm incredibly happy with this choice. I barely know him from anything so I've no idea whether or not he's a good actor, but I think that's a good thing because it means there'll be an element of surprise for me. That, and I have no pre-conceived notions of him, nor do I attach him mentally to another, more famous character (like I did with Simon Pegg in the episode he was in; I could not stop thinking "You've got red on you" throughout that whole episode!)

Like you, I think he has a very intriguing look, and from the clips they showed of his previous works, I think he's very up to the task. I'm very excited by this choice, and I think the only way I could be any more excited would be if Mr Moffat gave me a call and offered me the part of the next companion! ;)

That would be most exciting. I hope one day to be in it, even if I just get killed in the background. Let the Daleks loose on me I'll give them the best death throes ever!

My first reaction to seeing the new Doctor was "Yes! He's a bit weird-looking!" I always thought Tennant was handicapped by being a bit too pretty-boy for the role. All the best doctors have been a bit weird-looking without being actually ugly. Such a look helps given them that hint of alien that really helps sell the character ( ... )

That is true. Like Sylvester McCoy in the last year of his tenure (severely underated if you ask me). I have to disagree with you on Tennant though as I really like him and the demi-god ranting I do like but there is a tad too much I must admit. I suspose when your the last of your God like race you tend to become a bit self righteous. I like the fact that Tennant's Doctor was rather unforgiving, such as when he punished The Family of Blood. I was so happy they had opened the door on the darker nature of the Doctor. I always felt Eccleston did better in the darker scenes and fell at the fence with the happy joyful scenes, as it felt a bit forced although I did like his Doctor.

The restrained Goth look would be interesting. We have had the Rocker Dad look with Eccleston, the indie geek kid look with Tennant so maybe Mr Smith will bring us the Goth Doctor.

Oh,don't mistake my criticisms for disliking Tennant. I don't agree at all with the uncritical praise that seems to be heaped on his turn as the Doctor, but I do like a lot of what he has done ( ... )

I have to say this just because I haven't yet, and it's suitably convaluted (sp?) to get away with... Matt Smith is mates with my brother's boyfriend. Oh yes - the next Doctor and I are pratically best mates... x

Maybe if your good he'll let you come to the set in Cardiff. Pinch me a button from the TARDIS console if you do! x
