Haley and Gideon, sitting in a tree...

Questions have been raised by the Mt. St. Haley eruption week before last on Crimnal Minds: Is Haley having an affair? (Hotch got a hang-up call at home and then Haley's cell immediately rang -- she didn't answer it, being in the midst of reading him the riot act) matociquala thinks she's acting that way because she's pregnant. Which I hope is not true for many reasons, among them: the number one crisis on this planet is human overpopulation; since they *do* insist on making her the bitch of the piece, please don't let them make it *hormonal*; make it instead that she's been too much single-handedly raising a toddler and losing the society of her husband to a job which has recently nearly cost the lives of two of his coworkers; she would have told him if she were pregnant; and please, please ghod, do not make another baby the reason for them getting back together. That trick never works, and is just an encouragement of vice (see overpopulation, above).

I don't want her to be having an affair either, since: that *really* makes her the villain; anyone could've placed those phone calls, from a wrong number to Haley's Mom or sister who may have known she was contemplating a runner -- Hotch's instant suspicion (if it indeed *was* suspicion) speaks more to his attitude toward their relationship than to anything she's done -- and isn't that more interesting really?; taking little Jack with her to her lover's home would be so extra-tacky; it will too patly help justify the horror I foresee of Hotch & Prentiss getting jiggy w. it (please, TPTB, no, for the love of *ghod*) and/or Hotch just being free to fall in love with random victims/cops/unsubs a la Captain Kirk (do you think *burnt offerings* could dissuade them? Cos I'll pay for the sheep.)

But if she is having an affair, who's it with?

Yes, I vote for Gideon, just to be a complete twat about it. It would help explain his taking off, unannounced (like some other fans, I totally noticed how they made it parallel Mandy Patinkin's unannounced departure from the show, even to Hotch saying dismissively in Episode 3, "It doesn't matter") and Haley's sudden explosion (*she* knows Gideon's gone); it would be an extra kick in the crotch for Hotch, since it seems to be Beat Hotch To Death With Large Clubs Month; it would avoid them having to write in another character, even off-screen; it would sure as hell be *interesting*. And, you know? Profile THAT, BAU! They didn't *notice*.

Alternatively, as about the only other outside character we've ever seen, Hotch's kid brother.

Yeah, I'm not serious.

But if they wanna do intrateam romance, the scene *I* want to see? Strauss making a frostily spurned pass at Hotch. The REAL reason she's been on his ass. New character: Sexual Harassment Panda.
