So are you thinking that the fanfic usage pre-dated the alt.tasteless usage? I dunno, the lineage sounds plausible to me, especially the part about getting taken into bdsm fandom and have the meaning shift to the present one.
The version I heard was, yes, that it appeared first in a fanfic, as a sound-effect; however, this could be wrong. OR, a fic could have appeared on alt.tasteless or alt.sex.bondage. (Or, of course, neither of the above

are you mostly in dreamwidth? I keep wondering how you are, but I think I lost your email - and after all this time, I actually feel a little awkward asking that because, I should have kept in touch but I didn't....

Hi hon! No, I just mostly haven't been posting. I'm still mog at pacific dot net if you wanna email me -- I'm not sure if any email addies I have for you are still current either, it HAS been a while! I just haven't been online a lot. :-)
squick: A term originated around 1994 in the alt.tasteless newsgroup as a response to the question "What is the sound of a good skull fucking?" The term was quickly picked up by the alt.fuck.the.skull.of.jesus group and used primarily within Subgenius circles as a verb meaning "To fuck someone in the skull." The term was co-opted by the BDSM community some time latter, and its original meaning is often overlooked or ignored.
Thanks, I saw that one, but I'm looking for documentation rather than assertion. (see reply above to vgqn) Unfortunately this is only ONE of at least 20 theories on how the word came to be! :-) I'm losing track of LJ names, do I know you by another handle? I feel so embarrassed! (If not, welcome anyway.)
I have this weird vague half-memory of it having something to do with Feyd Rautha, Sting's character from the 1984 Dune movie, and the little critters that get squished in the jars and then drunk up with a straw. Like it was a combo of squeak and squish or some such.
Probably very left field and wrong, but it's the mental connection I've had since I first came across squick online, sometime in the last decade or so.

Here's a useful discussion of the OED/dictionaries and sex slang in general:

Did you come across the 'skull fucking' and alt.tasteless citation? Claims 1994 and the usenet group as the originating usage.
