I for one, can't wait to read A Few Words - and I'm British! I don't have a problem with the American setting - hello, AU! And while I've been known to titter (yeh, in a rather patronising way - good Lord we Brits can be so very precious about our language!!) when reading an 'Americanism' (shock, horror!) it really shouldn't be the big deal some people make it. And as you rightly say Brit writers often litter their American fandom fics with British expressions and slang (guilty!). If the story is well written and the characters well observed who cares? I'm just sorry that your own experience of Britpickers has been so poor. I've done some beta work, including Britpicking and I've certainly never felt offended by reading the American word - isn't that the point of the beta? Most recently I actually did some beta work on a HP fic written by a Brit and I actually pointed out quite a few 'Americanisms' that she had used (aaah, you're taking over our minds!!). Yes, A Few Words is about as AU as it really gets. At least it's funny...Well, to me, anyway...But I have an interesting view on Draco Malfoy so that probably helps.
