Jane Hamilton-I noticed you have her as an interest-I recently discovered her writings-started reading "The Book of Ruth"-I collect books by Woolf-peace Jonny
The Book of Ruth is good, but my favorite book by Jane Hamilton is A Map of the World. I haven't read anything by her in years, so I should look up some of her newer work.
I never appreciated Woolf when I was younger, but I'm so glad I gave her another chance.
I am looking for a used copy of "A Map of the World" by Hamilton-the other day I found a used edition of her novel "Disobedience". The last thing I read by Woolf were her diaries.
I suspect it would be well worth it to read To the Lighthouse again--it certainly seems like the sort of novel that wouldn't mean much to a teenager. In fact, it might be an interesting book for you to read now, since there is a motif of mothering that runs through it, and Mrs. Ramsay's character is (I believe) based on Woolf's own mother.
I have been having a wander through some old LJ communities in search of new blogs to read, which is how I ended up here, and I just wanted to let you know that I adore your journal. I felt a little weird about sifting through it without saying anything, so here I am, saying something. :) Hello.
I think I should not have introduced myself to Virginia Woolf with "Mrs. Dalloway", because I did not enjoy that and did not finish it, but her writing has so much potential. I see lovely quotes from her everywhere. Perhaps I will give her another try; I need new things to read.
I read Mrs. Dalloway quite a few years ago, sometime around the end of high school or the beginning of college. I'm not sure whether the problem was the book or my youth, but I certainly didn't get much out of it. It wasn't until I read To the Lighthouse last year that I really appreciated Woolf. I'd recommend that as a place to start if you're interested in giving her another try.
Thanks for stopping by, and for leaving such a lovely comment! I'm glad you enjoyed looking through my journal. I had a glance at your profile and I see that you're not interested in adding everyone under the sun, but if you'd like to be friends I would be happy to add you. :)
