So...Does Deitrich need to know and/or see a person to plant these strings? How long does it take to stick? Is the victim aware of being taken over as it happens? Does the puppeting work on, you know, a technically or officially dead body? Can the strings go through walls, floors, and so on? How tangible are they?

1. Torture: Sylvanas has endured plenty of mental torture and mind control as part of the undead Scourge. It unhinged her a bit. Now she seems to like inflicting pain, and I imagine receiving it would not sit well with her. Assuming she ever got in a situation like that again, she would relentlessly hunt down the ones who hurt her and deal with them in kind, then kill them. I kind of don't want to go there in any detail. Short answer: no.

2. Being a puppet: Not sure. Please answer those questions up there, and then I'll give a definite yes or no.

3. Tone hacking: If you mean cracking the code to get at screened messages, yes. Sylvanas is a warrior, not a scientist. But if you mean remotely taking control of her Tone to ( ... )

I'll try to answer these to the best of my ability. Feel free to ask me to try and explain more. I'm going mostly off of headcanon on this ( ... )

All right. Count Sylvanas out of the puppetry, then. You're welcome to mess with the Dark Lady's head via normal dialogue and interaction though, if you like. They may get along, they may not. Depends on how much and what kind of evil Dietrich lets her see.

1. Yes, to a degree. Don't kill him, but I'm not above letting him get some new scars. Mentally, he's a tough nut to crack, so it'd take a lot of effort on Dietrich's part.

2. Jade's pretty willful, so he might be able to fight off the strings for a bit. Plus he's got fon slots, so Dietrich would probably have to take a moment to figure out how those work. It's not impossible, but Jade would definitely put up a struggle.

3. He should be able to hack up to Jade's hard-to-crack filters.

Regarding numbero 2, though~ you say that a fire could burn the strings? So the strings can control people... but will they be able to sense that something's wrong even if they can't fight it? Because Hope casts magic with just a thought and has no problem summoning a firestorm (if he knew about the strings). ^^;; Or even shields to protect people if he realizes that he's being used as a puppet to hurt others. That would... make an interesting fight. XD;;

I don't know for sure if it can stop magic. At the very least he can massively delay it.

But regarding the fire thing this is going to be a little tl;dr. This is shown that fire burns it when he's using Radu's body in a fight against Abel. Radu is an vampire that can use fire and unlike most of them his blood is flammable. During which point he ignites the blood and controls it's path for a time with his string in which case he points out that his strings can't handle the intense heat. But when Radu himself tried to use fire against him he stopped.

So that's something we can always discuss if we ever get to that bridge.
