i'd forgotten what it was like to have a 'normal' job.  My new job is so incredibly stress-less, it's amazing.  i actually leave work with a smile on my face.  True, there are a whole lot of challenges [no M&P, no training, system issues] but so far, nothing even close to what i dealt with in EIEIO-land.

Tommy Boy, on the other hand, has already ( Read more... )

Shall we plan on Saturday evening? Order out or look for sushi-grade fish and give home-made a try?

Sure! (Peter and I had a party that we were going to go to in Chicago, but we are both too lazy for that drive again this weekend -- as we've been there a lot lately -- so we'll plan on your place for sushis instead. Your place is a bit closer. ^_~)

At the moment I'm thinking home-made, but that's only if those cooking (read: not me) are up for that. Peter can probably at least help with tamago if we go that route. We have a tamago pan! :D

So...say, 4 pm, with tomago pan in hand? oh, and the rice tub, too? And if the results are inedible, we'll just order out!

I can get sushi grade salmon from the Pick and Save by our house. My friend Gino let me behind the meat counter to check out the fish. After a bit of research, I found out that all fish in the US has been frozen, so if you get flash frozen on the boat fish that hasn't been thawed and refrozen, you've got sushi grade. Unfortunately most of it is steaked rather than fileted. But that can be worked around.

If we do homemade, the menu will be limited. Tuna of course, because a sushi meal without the tuna is like italian without bread, or french food without cheese. Salmon only because its readily available. Shrimp naturally. Scallops if I can get them. Octopus would be nice, I'll have to check on the prep for it again, if it takes too much effort we might forgo that. Your basic surimi/california roll probably. Along with tomago if someone with the proper pan wants to bring it, otherwise I'll make it in may french omelett pan.

Of Course!

Well this is shaping up to be a get together. And just think it all started because I told Kay I had found the proper cutlery. Then got thinking about sushi.
