All you need is a big star icing tip and practice with cake decorating? You also have to have time and patience to make sure it comes out right instead of just glopping silicone on the case and expecting it to look perfect. The piping is the shell technique, I think. You can always take a local cake decorating class to improve your skills... and eat delicious cake and icing while accomplishing it! There's also a vid from sototallylame's youtube channel a while ago showing off her technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqKiPvq9eKE and I made a vid too if you'd like to see how I made a case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icQ2TiPczFM

Do you know how SototallyLame and others get the "whipped cream" to be so shiny? I use DAP Alex Plus and I do not like the non-shiny feel and it attracts dust way too much and the only way to keep it shiny is to apply a gloss but it looks like it naturally glossy >u

You have to use a silicone based caulk. The DAP that you are using is usually an acrylic/acrylic-silicone mix...which dries and is that dull color. It is cheaper though, and I use it to practice my piping. BUT for the shiny affect, you either need to buy the Whipple cream, or silicone ONLY based caulk (I got lucky and found some at a local Big Lots for 2 dollars for a tube I normally have to pay 6 for at the Home Depot or Lowes). The silicone based also is a bit squishy once dry too.

Good luck and happy decodening! :)
