Hannibal was out of the house. Yeah, maybe it wasn't a big thing for most but anytime he ventured out without being pushed out was a pretty big deal for him. Abigail had been pretty surprised when he said he was going out but he was pretty sure it was a good kind of surprise. She could have her house to herself and he'd get some fresh air ( Read more... )

For a while, Angela had been pretending that this mutual not-really-talking thing was for the best. That they probably needed some time. That was how these thing went, right? At least, that's what every advice column Angela had ever read seemed to say. Not that they really covered the response to their particular situation.

Still, it'd been a lot of time by now, and someone, eventually, had to make the first move here.

That Angela could do, and would be why his phone should be ringing about now.

Hannibal pulled his phone out of his pocket and glanced down at the caller ID. That name was...that name was welcome but Hannibal was still a little unsure of things. That didn't mean he was going to ignore her though.

"Hello?" he asked, once he'd clicked the phone on and put it to his ear.

"You don't call, you don't write... A girl could think you don't want to talk to her." Yes, she'd been as guilty of that as him. It was more of a teasing remark, meant to avoid the awkwardness of monosyllabic greetings. Treading lightly was never really her way.

"Well, you know, I've been busy..."

Yeah, that was a lie and Hannibal laughed at how bad a lie it was.

"...staring at the walls in Abigail's house. It's a very time consuming activity."

He could try to do light and joking too.

So, Kate had been feeling a bit guilty over last week for... most of the last week, actually. Things elsewhere in her life were going better (well, a little bit, in a certain way of looking at it) and she felt like she maybe owed an apology here.

Of course, she wasn't going to start with that. Oh no. First, she was going to take a picture of her left hand, with the ring on her middle finger, and send that to him. With an accompanying text, of course.

please don't ask if you can be my man of honor.

Because she trusted him to be able to tell fingers apart better than Puck had.

When Hannibal's phone dinged, he picked it up and his eyes widened at the ring he was seeing. The text that came with it explained a little better.

nice ring. And he meant that. early birthday present?

kinda, also early going away present. promise ring. puck thought i was getting married.

Whether or not she'd thought even for half a second that she was being proposed to was not something that needed to be discussed.
