My beautiful, only bought on Friday, xBox 360 has what is known as The Red Ring of Death. It's now become a deadbox. I'm going to take it back to Gamestation when I wake up again, but I was trying to check online if there was any way of reviving it temporarily so I'm not bored between now and falling asleep ( Read more... )

If it's a proper red ring of death their probably isn't anything you can do about it as part of the hardware has died. Not sure what you can do to back up it's hard drive when my Xbox did the red light thing it had to go to Germany for repairs and the instruction was to send only the console.

I got through to such a charming gentleman on the phone at Gamestation. Never seen such sarcasm.

I can't be arsed to send it to Germany cos I will be without my new toy for weeks and weeks. Going to go in to town and brave the sarcastic guy and get a new shiny one.

Look back on my LJ.
Yes the towel trick actually works, (it forces an overheat error which overides the general hardware failure).

BUT take it back to the shop, you have legal rights first and foremost. Don't let them talk you into sending it to M$ yourself, they MUST replace it under law. I'll come with you if you want.

I'm going to head into town now and get them to replace it. I called them up earlier and the sarcastic bastard said an exchange wouldn't be a problem. A bit unhappy at having to bring the lot back cos it's quite heavy with the power supply and an awkward size, but at least I should get GTA4 back in a few hours..... No saved game data though.

look, when they agree to give you a new unit, ask to swap the hardrives over. All sorted and you keep your data.
