Is it ok to kill someone to facilitate a change for the better on the part of the majority?

Better yet, if the person were taken out of society (life in prison) would it be just as effective as killing?

one person will not do - the only way to make things better is probably to kill lots of people - in fact to better the majority one would have to kill the majority of people i meet, and honestly... who's got that kinda time available and why start something you probably wont finish...
