INTERVIEW
Hello, I am Gylve of the mag. I'll be your interviewer! :D
Hi, here's Federico from Advent. Thanks for this new opportunity to explain
what lie under our music!
1) From what I can tell, you were at first attempting to make a sound similar
to Hecate Enthroned. But, your current sound differs from theirs vastly.
Do you feel that you have evolved beyond that style or that you have
completely
missed the mark?
Our style and music are evolved during the time. Every member of the Advent
crew has tried to put in the Advent music his personal and different
experience
and feelings. I try to explain better: every single member of band put in
Advent's music, in one side, some aspect take from the music he like and
in the other side his personal expression of minds and feelings. In this
way different things is mixed to create a new unity: from the most to the
one. I think this is the stronger point of our process of creation and
of our music. In this way we can obtain very different kind of music that
evolving during the time, together with us. As we growth in our
single personality,
also our music evolved in a complex way.
2) Your demo seemed to rely a lot more on synth for melody than your current
work. Why the change?
All is linked to the things I said before. When changes came in Advent also
the music must inevitably change. After the demo the keyborderers decide
to left the band and so Advent music had to change. At the beginning we
have tried to search another keyborderers, but at the end we are not satisfy
and we have decided to follow the flow of the event and make only music
with the resources of the moment. Create music for me signify express my
personality and try to give a message to people in a different way of the
dialogue. With music you can speak with impression and directly with feelings
and sensations. The first thing to do is not to planning what you really
want but you had only to play music at the beginning, after you can work
on the track and try to understand what it can communicate or what sensations
it can create. In this way you can really express you freely and in the
best way with your resources. If you decide obstinately to do something
in a particular way it is possible that you are not allowed (maybe
for different
reason) to make the things in the way you want. Try to follow the stream
of our mind it is more simple and in the end you can find a track also you
can said: "I really make this? WOW!", this is the essence of our free
creation.
3) What inspires you most to play this type of music?
Personally, I like to play this music (really I don't know how we can define
it...leave this to the people that listen to it!) because leave more freedom
in the creation: about voices, there?s possibility to use clean and growl
voices to make sweet or dread symphony. In this way you can make a lot of
different thing and you can really work with your imagination without chains.
4) What does your playlist look like at the moment?
At the moment I listen very few music. The only one I listen to now it?s
Linglad, an Italian band that make very beautiful music inspired to J.R.R.
Tolkien ?Lords of the rings?. It?s a very relaxed and well made music!
5) Your vocal style is very unique (in a good sense)! I have never heard
one like it before! Do you feel that the use of clean vocals will increase
or decrease on albums to come?
Thank you very much for the compliment, than I really obtain the effect
I want obtain in the Advent Music! I think there's a lot of truly
professionals
that are most talented than me mixing growling and clean voice, I try to
follow their example and maybe I put also something of mine.
I think both clean and growls will remain in my conception of singing in
this type of music. The growls voices represent my dark side: my hate, my
fury...all the negative parts of my existence. Instead the clean
voice represent
the bright side: my tranquillity, my peace...all positive parts of my soul.
In the life, I thing the most important to be cultivated is the second side,
but it is very difficult defeat the dark side. In the music I can free this
dark emotion, but in the end the good prevail on the evil . You can read,
for examples, the lyrics of "Paradise Lost", this song is about the fury
will of fighting against forces that you feel oppressive [maybe because
you don't really understand them], but this is a useless fighting because
at the end this forces are the essence of the existence and then if you
fight you will be defeated. Maybe the best things is to trying not fall
in sin became proud of our forces. I think if you embrace the dark side
only a thing aspect for you: madness!
6) What is the atmosphere like when ADVENT is in the studio? Are tensions
high during recording times?
Normally there?s no tension, but we had some problem during the recordering
of ?The Dawn??Eh! Eh! Eh! We have some problem not among us, during the
reordering, but with people that work in the studio for some misunderstanding,
so we have passed some tension moment, but at the end all went ok: you have
the album in your hand! ^____^
We are not completely satisfy, but we think it's a good beginning!
7) Countless musicians (for example, Fenris of Darkthrone) claim that using
Symphonics defies the true nature of black metal. However, I feel that you
use them very well. Do you think keyboards are something that may be used
in moderation or something you would consider necessary to this kind of
music?
No problem: we don?t make black metal music! I think very few people in
the world make true black metal. Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor,
Satyricon
(until ?Nemesis Divina?), Dimmu Borgir (the first album)... I think these
bands really have the black metal spirit at the beginning, then maybe their,
or also black metal spirit, evolved and became very different to the original
one. Discuss about black metal I think it?s quite impossible because every
people that said he make black metal think that their interpretation of
black metal it?s the correct one?I think the original black metal spirit
it?s died and now there are some styles evolved from it.
I think every use of keyboards it?s allowed: depend what kind of effect
or message you want express. I also think using keyboards in extreme music
can equilibrate the no-melody side of this kind of music. As I said I think
this music very well represent the conflict between good and evil and so
there had to be symphonic melodies mixed with extreme ones.
8) What was the first metal album you ever heard?
Iron Maiden "Fear of the Dark", I think I was 13-14 years old...
9) Is ADVENT a live band?
I think for the moment Advent it isn?t a live band: we have a lot of changes
about member and every time we think we are not ready for live. In the other
side I like very much to make live when I was younger (at the beginning,
also with other band), but now I see that all the times you have the
possibility
to sound there are a lot of problem: bad sounds, people that don?t know
their work?I lost the will to discuss every time for silly things! So I
prefer don?t make live, until we will have the possibility make one live
in the right way. I hope in the future!

I want to said to every peoples that follow a dream to continue and not
stop to dream. If you make music you had to know there are a lot of people
that can help you to realise your dream. About this I would thanks very

problems for the bands are about money to make a well product, but there
are a lot of intelligent people that are ready to invest on the underground
movement (like Golden Lakes Prods). Don?t think to play music for job: you
had to make music because you like express through it! Then if you will
work making music it will be a beautiful thing; but this had to be an
accident:
your will had to be make a kind of music because you like it! I think my
work will be another one (I don?t think I will play music for job): but
I?m very happy we have reached this first goal, making our first album.

I think that lyrics are an important part of our work and they are very

About our songs: in these album you can find different types of songs. Some
are more romantic, other epic and other try to scanning the worst horror
of the world. All this work show our restlessness about the life. All this
work try to give an answer the things that happen among us and in the world.
This answer it?s our answer. It?s our way to see the things. In this work
there are concentrate our lives in this last five years.
