언니 Worries (part 1?)

So this weekend, for Children's Day, I am meeting ㅈ's two nieces (Korean ages 5 and 7) and her 언니. Because 언니 is the matriarch of the family, if she disapproves of me a future with ㅈ is unlikely and and the present might be doomed also.  (Those of you reading this who are not in Korea might not believe that someone could be that influential and ( Read more... )

Usually coloring or drawing of some sort is good as well as puzzles (easy ones), Card games like go fish are also fun. Even memory with the cards is good. Usually they like playing house or at least my Kindergarteners here do so maybe that too? Reading books are good. I don't know if these will help but I hope that they do.

These are good ideas and they have got mne thinking in a new direction. It never occured to me to stay home (well, ㅈ's home) and just do kid things. However I think this will be a first trip to 서울for the nieces, so they may want to "see" more. And the card games might be good subway entertainment. Board game rooms have children's games don't they? (It has been a long time since I went to one of those places!)

I've seen kids using children's games in board game cafés, plus they have the big squeeky mallets for the added excitement of hitting 'Uncle Dedalus".

Seoul Forest sounds like it might be fun as well, although I haven't been there myself. Don't they have a petting zoo on part of the grounds as well? I like the suggestion of using cards or a coloring book as a way to keep their interest while on transportation, or even while spending time at a park.

I checked my Lonely Planet: Korea guide for ideas, but, sadly, it isn't much help.

All I can really think of is the aquariam in the Coex building..but that would probably be insanely crowded. Seoul Forest looks great though!

ㅈ is irrationally worried about losing the kids. (She is even going to give them her phone for the weekend.) I mentioned that there will probably be a parade the length of 종로 (Because of Buddha's brithday in two weeks) and she vetoed it because of the crowds. I told her that because of the length of the parade and the fact that it lasts for hours the crowds really are not too bad (also a 2-3 kid to adult ratio is good.) I told her that the fire breathing dragons are worth it. (I'd post pictures but they were lost in my last computer crash.) She was still reluctant. So Coex mighth be out. I was thinking 63's aquariam may be less crowded though.

Is it possible to make small boats and float them in a pond?

Like out of popsicle sticks and string, maybe. You could make little paper people to put on them too, and see how many "survive."

Just a thought, kids love silly stuff like that.

Ohhh, this is good! I suggested to ㅈ that we go to a park that I like and we she asked what we would do there, I knew my awnser, "Watch the people" we not the best, especially for kids (even though it is what *I* want to do the most.)
I wouldn't even begin to know where to look for sticks and string to make them but the paper boats should be easy enough to find and oragami paper is easy to find. (But I'd have to learn some oragami before Saturday.)
