I had an interesting and very encouraging experience yesterday.  Last week "ㅈ" gave me a new cell phone for my birthday.  She told be it is "totally bling-bling" (her exact words) and that it is the best phone in Korea which, considering how phone crazy this country is, is really saying something.  It has every feature you can imagine, including

A foreigner who has lived in Korea a long time and speaks Korea! It blows their minds! "But Korean is the most difficult language!" It is 'their' language we are not allowed to speak it.

It makes hearing Americans complain about "damn feriners coming to this country and not speaking any American!" seem especially bizarre.

hahaha congratulations!!!! I'm still at the stage where I'll text or write an instant message to a Korean friend in Korean(my name disguised as my Korean name written in hangeul) and my friend replies, "Hey Amanda!" in English! Sigh. Just gotta keep working!
