So Busan was great.  We saw four movies and it cost us 2만원.  Total.  There were problems with the double feature on the beach so we got our money back for that one.  None of the movies were very good.  I saw Japanamation for the first time.  We saw a Korean movie from the 60's that was interesting as a relic.  ㅈ and I spent 5 days together.  But ( Read more... )

Omg...I feel bad for bothering you today for advice for my problems...that's a lot on your mind.

Why do they care when you are born? Are there any other visas you can get?

Hmmmm...I know you don't want to go back to the US but would it be worth it for you guys to go to an area on the border (her in Canada and you in the US) so you can be close and not have to deal with visa issues? Even though Canada and the US are the last places you want to be, it would only be for a year...and with ㅈ it wouldn't be so bad (though I have to agree, I don't want my 언니 going so far away for so long!) When does she want to leave (as a guestimate)?

May I ask who died? What happened? Are you doing ok on that front?

This has nothing to do with what you have written above except that you mentioned Andong and I was there on the weekend. Went to the mask festival and it wasn't bad. The highlight was at night when we went to somewhere near the Hanoe (한외??) village and watched the falling fire. I don't know if you've ever heard of it but you're supposed to say "낙화야!" when they're about to throw the fire off the cliffside.

A few of my friends went to the film festival and said the movies were a letdown. Shame about that since it's supposed to be world famous.

Yeah, I could not believe how many foreigners there were in Andong for the festival this year. Every year the number seems to double. This year it looked like it was about 25% foreigners, despite the decline is show quality. I was staring at them in disbelief and muttering to myself "외국인 너무 많구나!" The Koreans I was with were laughing at me, because I sounded so Korean. I have lived in Andong for three years so I am used to knowing all the foreigners here and it is always very odd to see non-Korean faces I don't know. I went to 하회마을 two weekends ago and saw what you are talking about. I think throwing fire off of cliffs should be done more in the West; it is simple and exciting. The band playing "My Way" while the 기생 danced on a boat in the river was what really made the experience feel like something out of a David Lynch movie.
