'Lolled'.

Is that a ruined word now? I mean, as in, he 'lolled about lazily'. Would you, seeing that word, immediately associate it with LOL! instead and do a second glance?

I think I would.

It was exactly the right word as well.

It's definitely context. I confess that, as I saw it on your journal, I initially read it in the LOL! sense. However, were I to see it, well, lolling on a creamy sheet of vellum whilst describing the activities of some enervated gigolo, I'd definitely see it in the original sense.

if the he in question happens to be a dog with his tongue lolling out, I'd certainly not think of the internet connection, even though dogs often do look like they are laughing *g*
