Today I got my Mortgage statement. I have never in my life understood these. This one is even more confusing.

Despite the fact my insurance paid off a huge amount of money this year. There is a little line at the bottom that says. 'Arrears of £17.37' has been added to your debt.

Eh?

There's also a really odd bit at the end. 'We can both ( Read more... )

'We can both choose which law applies to this contract. We use the law of the United Kingdom.'

I would choose the Law of Bowey. This decrees that all stupid and fabricated arrears are written off.

Can the law of Bowey forget the arrears and just write off the whole lot?

That's presumably the interest that accumulated between the moment that they told you exactly how much you owed, and the moment that you actually paid it...?

It doesn't appear to be. I didn't pay off the full amount so I've kept making payments by direct debit. the mortgage statement probably explains it but I'm afraid all those numbers make my head spin.

Maybe it is some kind of admin charge? You could always call them to find out!
