i went to the art institute of houston for a year and a half, and i loved it... the instructors are all really nice, it's a good enviornment, and i think Jim Estes is the head of the photo department now and hes an AMAZING teacher... the only thing negative i would have to say is that the school is fucking expensive and our credits dont transfer to any other schools, unless it's another AI... and I dont know how good the curriculum for photo majors will be since they just started the program... BUT if your wanting to stay in Texas i personally think that the art institute is a very good choice... and even if you do decide you want to eventually move out of texas, and you havent finished school, there are art institutes all over the place ! and your credits will transfer between their schools... but yeah, before i went there i had heard negative stuff about the school but they have expanded ALOT over the last few years and really "stepped it up".. i think its just the price of tuition that typically turns people off

as I've said before, my Mommy went to the art institute back in the day. actually, she was the first graduating class from the Houston school. ha.

but as far as recent things go I had a friend who went there and from what I gathered by visiting her they only do digital photography. you can borrow DSLRs and other equipment, but yeah. no darkroom action. :( it seems to me that in general the AI of Houston is mostly focused on culinary arts and other aspects of design? but I dunno. you can definitely stop by there and get a degree plan thing for the photography bachelors program.

I know U of H has a film photography department but I have heard nothing but awful things about the teaching staff there. maybe they've improved? maybe you can kick their asses around? maybe!

OR you could come to LSU and work at the paper with me and we could pretend we're photojournalists for The Daily Planet. c'mon.

anyway, it'll be good to have you back in Houston! whoooo!
