I actually haven't read "the game" yet, but i've been getting into Mystery and David D for the past month. I'm studying that whole A1-3 process. And for David D, studying cocky comedy. As far as approaching women at a bookstore and other public places, i dont have that much of a hang up, its just developing the conversation, hook point and creating attraction. Also, try setting up more of a leadership role if you're naturally not as funny, it could be an easier fit and women love to be led.
